Michael Fraser had officially run out of leads. As a respected senior of hers once said, "when you have no clue, suspects are of value". So she had to talk.
And she knew who she'll talk to- the only person who has not been helpful to her till now, Thomas Weld.
She thought it would be impossible to question him without his lawyer sitting beside him.
To her surprise he agreed easily. Maybe he was trying to convince her that he was completely innocent.
So he sat here in front of her now. Still oddly calm and composed, which irritated her greatly.
"I want to know the name of the woman you are seeing," she said and after seeing the flash of annoyance on his face she added,"for investigative purposes."
He sighed. "I'm not seeing anyone right now."
"I hope you know the consequences of lying to the police," she raised an eyebrow in accusation.
"Yes. And I'm not lying," he insisted. His facade of calmness ebbing away.
"Of course. Who was the last woman you were seeing?"
"I haven't been with any other woman for more than a month now. How does it matter officer?" This time, he didn't make an effort to hide his annoyance.
"So you have cheated before that," she smirked.
"As a fact, I've never cheated," he gritted his teeth.
She gave him a look saying Seriously.
"You just said you were seeing other women a month before," she pointed out.
He sighed once again. "Look," he ran his hands through his hair. "We had a complicated relationship. Something we could not share with everyoneone without them judging us badly."
"Well, I'm all ears."
He took a deep breath. "Jane and I were in an open relationship."
Her eyes widened in surprise, she knew the meaning of the words. It made complete sense, now that she thought about it, but she still couldn't quite accept it.
"What?"
"An open relationship. We both 'cheated' and knew about it," he explained, taking her surprise for confusion.
"So..." She said, at a loss of words.
"She knew about my girlfriends and I knew about Tristan."
Michael hadn't met anyone in an open relationship in her life, and never quite understood the concept of accepting infidelity in a relationship.
Something in her expression made Thomas grow uncomfortable as he explained further.
"It's not really a very accepted concept by many. So we weren't very open- transparent about it. I was not very great at hiding it, I know but Jane did a pretty good job. I know what people say about me. I wasn't even that into it but Jane seemed to like it but she broke it off a month ago so-"
She cut him off. He had started a furious rant, not even making an attempt on hiding his nervousness.
"Jane liked it and what you mean broke it off?"
If it was possible he was becoming more nervous by the second. "Well yes. She's the one who suggested it. She-"
"Are you alright?" She asked concerned. He was really getting hyper now. He did not look like a nervous man at first.
"Yeah," he said "I need my pills."
He quickly poured himself a glass of water and took out some pills from his desk.
