The next day after rehearsal, Ryan went into practice room 3. Evan was already waiting in there. He looked up from the sheet music he was holding and smiled at Ryan.
"Hey, you ready to rehearse?" Evan asked.
"Yeah, let's do this!" Ryan exclaimed, giddily.
"Alright, so I was thinking one of us could play piano throughout the song. Do you know how to play?" Evan asked him, as he passed Ryan sheet music.
"Yeah, I've been playing since I was like 9." Ryan said, taking the sheet music Evan passed him.
"Perfect, because I have no idea how to play." Evan awkwardly chuckled.
"So, ready to get started? I'm assuming I'd be singing the higher part, cause there is no way I can hit some of those notes." Ryan said, "Luckily the piano part isn't that hard. I can sightread it and it'll probably be good."
"Yeah. So I'm ready when you are." Evan said, gesturing to the electric piano in the room.
Ryan sat down and started to play.
I really can't stay
(Baby it's cold outside)
I've got to go away
(Baby it's cold outside)
This evening has been
(Been hoping that you'd drop in)
So very nice
(I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice)My mother will start to worry
(Beautiful, what's your hurry?)
Father will be pacing the floor
(Listen to the fireplace roar)
So really I'd better scurry
(Beautiful, please don't hurry)
Maybe just a half a drink more
(Put some records on while I pour)The neighbors might think
(Baby, it's bad out there)
Say, what's in this drink?
(No cabs to be had out there)
I wish I knew how
(Your eyes are like starlight now)
To break this spell
(I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell)I ought to say no, no, no
(Mind if I move in closer?)
At least I'm gonna say that I tried
(What's the sense in hurting my pride?)
I really can't stay
(Baby don't hold out)
Ah, but it's cold outsideI've got to get home
(Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there)
Say, lend me your coat
(It's up to your knees out there)
You've really been grand
(Thrill when you touch my hand)
Why don't you see
(How can you do this thing to me?)There's bound to be talk tomorrow
(Think of my life long sorrow)
At least there will be plenty implied
(If you caught pneumonia and died)
I really can't stay
(Get over that hold out)Ah, but it's cold outside
Oh, baby, it's cold outside
Oh, baby, it's cold outsideRyan played the final chord. Both boys chuckled. There was only a few mistakes, mainly on piano and there were a few notes both boys missed. Nonetheless, it sounded great.
"That sounded amazing!" Evan exclaimed.
"Yeah, that was great!" Ryan agreed with a giddy grin.
"Alright, so can you rehearse every Tuesday after rehearsals? Cause that's kinda the only day I have free time after rehearsal." Evan asked.
"Yeah, anyway I have to head out. If I don't my sister is gonna make me walk home. I'll see you tomorrow." Ryan waved, walking out of the practice room.
His heart was pounding, did he actually just have a rehearsal with Evan? While practicing a kinda sorta love song? His smile remained on his face all the way through the night.
