Now seeing as though they were all high schoolers, no one had any idea of how to actually put on a telethon. Luckily, Ms. Fletcher had a few ideas. Duets, solos, trios, group songs, skits, anything and everything relating to acting. Even backstage would be acting, dancing, or even singing if they could.
The telethon was scheduled for December 13. Giving the drama kids exactly two months to prepare........and panic. Well, mainly Ryan was panicking. He was already completely terrified of playing Jack for a whole week, now he had to worry about this!
It took five minutes and a slap to the face for him to snap out of it. By then, everyone had already begun scheduling and planning performances. The telethon was going to run for five hours, there was plenty of space to fill.
Ryan and Leo planned to do a duet of If You Were Gay from Avenue Q. After a few minutes of the two running the song and a few lines to start prepping for the play, Ryan saw Leah walk up to him, a devious grin on her face. She's gonna make me do a solo. He thought.
"Ryan! I signed you up to do a solo. You're gonna do Defying Gravity and you're not gonna protest, unless you want me to slap you again. Also, I know you're going to say that you need an Glinda and I found you one." Leah paused then pointed at herself, "Me."
Leo snorted, "You? Leah you can't sing!"
"You've heard me attempt to sing four years ago, I'm better now. Because, Maria has been teaching me." She grinned.
Maria nodded, "Yeah. She's pretty good and I know for a fact she can hit Glinda's notes."
Leo rolled his eyes and walked off, Leah turned her attention back to Ryan, "But I can't hit those notes!" Ryan lied.
"Yes you can. I've heard you do it before, and before you say 'It'll be obvious that I'm trans'. Everyone already knows. We've all seen you at GSA meetings. You always seem to forget that no one here is straight." Leah explained with a smirk.
By then Ryan had no more excuses or ways of rejecting doing it, "Fine. I'll do it." He sighed and Leah cheered.
Then someone tapped Ryan on the shoulder. He flipped around and was once again face to face with Evan London.
"Hey I was wondering if you wanted to do a duet with me. I'm thinking of Baby It's Cold Outside. You up for it?" Evan asked Ryan.
Ryan was completely shocked, standing there in awe, "Uh, y-yeah! Sounds great." He managed to say.
"Awesome. I'll sign us up. Can you rehearse tomorrow after practice?" Evan asked.
"Yeah, I can." Ryan nodded.
"Cool, I'll see you then in practice room 3." Then Evan walked off and Ryan immediately flopped down onto the couch in complete and utter shock.
Jamie looked at him, "You good, Ry?" They asked.
"I'm better than good, I'm amazing." Ryan said, with a lovestruck grin on his face.
Then Ms. Fletcher whistled, everyone's heads turned to her, "Alright guys, that's a wrap for today! See you tomorrow, and get ready to dive head first into the read through. Leads, make sure you have scripts. You're dismissed."
Everyone packed up and started to trail out of the chorus room. Ryan stopped at Ms. Fletcher's desk and got his script then started in his way out. Leah, Maria, and Hudson all walked with him. Then Evan walked up to the group.
"Mind if I walk with you guys?" He asked.
"Not at all." Leah said, throwing a grin at Ryan who glared back at her.
"Soooooo Evan, Ryan told us that you guys are doing a duet. What made you want to do one with him?" Hudson asked.
Ryan internally groaned. At this very moment, he hated his friends more than ever before.
Evan shrugged, "He's a good singer and kinda cute. Besides, we have to get used to doing singing together and such. We are both leads."
Then Evan headed off to a grey car, "See you guys tomorrow. Don't forget, practice room 3 after rehearsals."
Ryan nodded and waved, then turned to his friends, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Did Evan London just call me kinda cute?!?!!!" Ryan asked, his face tinted pink.
Maria grinned, "Yes he did indeed."
Ryan walked to his sister's car, feeling on top of the world. It was most definitely the best rehearsal he had ever had up until then.
