"Hey, Mel." I turn around to see Chase standing behind me.
"Hi."
"Thanks for yesterday."
"No problem."
"Soooooo.......what are you doing after school?" He says. I hold up my advanced chem book.
"Chemistry homework."
"Me too." He holds up his book. "So, you want to come over and study? Chemistry." He blushes a little.
"Sure. Your family is way more interesting than mine. I can tell you exactly what's going on at my house. My mom is eating plain white rice with tofu and listening to classical music while working on her psychology book. Back when I lived with my dad, we'd have so much fun. We'd order KFC and watch Big Bang Theory reruns after I was done with my homework."
"That sounds fun. With your dad, I mean."
"It was." I look down at my pink Hightops.
"Come on." Chase says, grabbing my bag. "I'll carry your books."
"Thanks."
"Well, well, well, lady hair, sees you got yourself a new girlfriend. That's got to be a first." We turn around to see Principal Perry.
"I'm not his girlfriend, Principal Perry. We're just friends." I look at Chase, and it looks like he deflates a little.
"I was going to say. You'd get sick of him anyway, probably." She says.
"Don't you have other students to torture?" Chase says.
"Yes, I do." She says, waddling off.
I look at Chase. He doesn't look exactly the same since I said we were just friends.
"Chase? You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. Why wouldn't I be? Heheh." He says. We walk outside in silence. I grab his hand just for the heck of it, swinging it as we walk.
"Chase, I just said that so she'd leave us alone."
"What are you talking about?" He says, with a mischevious grin on his face.
"You know, stupid."
