"Alright boys, Seraphina has challenged us to a game of hide and seek!" Pan announced.
The boys cheered, like they normally did after Pan said anything at all, relative or not. They had all just woken up but none of them looked groggy from the sleep they awoke from, they were all ready.
I, on the other hand, was exhausted. I hadn't slept much, mainly wanting to make sure Pan didn't try or do anything to me. A couple hours here and there I may have passed out, but that's it. I was not ready for this, but I know Pan wouldn't let me take a rain check.
"Seraphina" he said.
He caught my attention instantly. "What?"
"Go run and hide"
I stood my ground for a moment, showing Pan I wasn't worried or scared of what could possibly happen if I lost or even if I was found within the first couple minutes. Then my legs pulled me away from the camp.
Tree branches hit my face, bushes and fallen twigs scraped against my legs, the moon lit the way. I ran until the boys couldn't be heard and climbed a tree, making sure to get really high up so they couldn't see me though the thick canopy of trees.
I sat on a branch at the top, briefly getting glances of the moon starting to descend from the sky, being replaced by the sun. As I stared at the sky my eyes started to get heavy, dropping down until they were closed completely. All the sounds around me, the wind rushing through the trees and the waves hitting the beach, became distant.
"You will spend the rest of eternity with me" he says cheekily.
"Not unless I die before that" I mutter.
He lands in his treehouse, my feet hitting the ground before his. I yank my arm away from him but he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling my body to his.
"I know you're a heartless boy Pan, don't even try messing with me" I tell him.
"I may be heartless but you aren't"
He pulls my face to his, kissing me. I try and resist, and end successfully. His lips were so warm, passionate, magical at the touch, but on the inside I knew he was cold, hateful. I couldn't let him fool me, if I did that'd be the end of it. He looked a little shocked when I pulled away, his eyes showing something more than hate, dare I say it, love.
"Wait, you have a heart now, it may not be yours but you have one" I say, realization spreading across my face.
He smirks. "Think what you like, but I will never love anyone"
I roll my eyes as he steps outside. "Well that's the perfect thing to say to get me to fall in love with you" I reply sarcastically.
"It doesn't matter what I say, you already love me"
My eyes opened and what I saw nearly made me fall off of the branch I was sitting on. Pan was perched in front of me, sitting lazily with one leg dangling off the edge. His eyes were trained at the ground, watching some lost boys running around with torches.
"So you found me. What do you get as a prize?"
"How long do you think you have been asleep?" He asks, raising an eyebrow but not his eyes from the ground.
"A couple minutes, at most an hour"
It was weird, I may have said it felt like I only had a short amount of sleep but I felt refreshed, more refreshed than what an hour of sleep would give you. Plus it was dark outside.
"You were asleep the entire day"
I sigh. "How long have you been sitting there?"
"I only found you a couple minutes ago, the boys don't know though"
"Does that mean I won? I managed to hide from you and the lost boys?"
He looks up at me, annoyed and angry. "You fell asleep"
"I was tired. Did you expect me to actually sleep last night? I'm on a strange island with weird boys who hunt for fun, not exactly a comforting thought that I'd want to dream about or fall asleep to"
"But you could have fallen in your sleep, or we could have never found you"
I let both of my legs dangle on either side of the branch, leaning forward on my hands. A smirk made its way to my face as the thought of what he just said passed through my mind.
"You were worried about me?"
He scoffs, looking back at the ground. "I thought you had found your own way off the island"
I slide off the branch, letting myself free fall for a little bit, then teleport to a branch close to the one Pan was still on. He was staring down at the ground, eyes wide at my actions.
"Well what are you waiting for?" I ask, making his head snap up. "Who gave you that ring? When? Tell me its whole story"
"Someone like you have it to me-"
"That's not a proper answer" I cut him off. "Name"
"Evanora. The Witch of the East"
