Chapter 6
Present time
So many questions
"Mom?" I call out in to the quiet house.
"Hmmm?" She calls back.
"Mom." I find her in her room, lying down on the bed.
"What is it, honey?" She asks.
"I saw Max yesterday."
"What? Like on the street?" My mother sits up and stares at me.
"No. He moved here. He goes to my school now."
"Is Danny or Eric here too?" She looks worried.
"Not that I know of... But Max could easliy tell one of them." I sink down in her bed and rest my head on her lap.
She strokes my hair. "What do you want to do about it?"
"I can't leave. I finally have friends who actually like me," I mumble.
"And I can't leave work. Do you want to change schools?"
"No... It's almost summer so I can just leave for college soon."
"Okay."
"Yeah..."
-----
Ring. Ring. Ring. "Hello?"
"You can't see him. Please don't see him again, Christina," I beg.
"Thalia? What are you talking about?" She sounds surprised.
"Max. You can't see him again." I switch my phone to the other ear. "Just please don't. He's a bad person."
"I still don't understand why. He's a good guy. Not to mention really hot shirtless." Christina sighs.
"I used to know him. And he tried to kiss me on Friday."
"Wait. On Friday? We slept together on Thursday! That asshole!"
"I know. He's a really bad person." Bringing up the almost kiss could probably change her mind to sleep with him again.
"Okay I get he's a bad guy now. But you used to know him? You never told me about him. Now that I think about it, you never talk about high school and middle school before you moved here." Christina sounds puzzled.
"There wasn't much to talk about. I was home schooled for about two years durning high school and went to a dumb middle school. Honestly, you wouldn't care much for my past."
"Okay. Where did you know him from?"
"Umm, I knew him and his friends in middle school."
"Okay," Christina says.
"He's a bad guy."
"Okay," she repeats.
"A hot bad guy..."
"Yeah."
There's a knock on my bedroom door.
"Yeah?" I push the speaker away from my mouth and turn towards the door.
My mom pokes her head in. "Bailey is here."
I do a thumbs up with my free hand and turn back to the phone. "I gotta go. Bailey's here."
"I heard. See you at school tomorrow."
"Love ya, slut."
"Love ya too, bitch."
I hang up right as Bailey barges in.
"Bai!" I jump up from my bed and hug her.
"Thalia. We need to talk."
Slowly sitting back down, I say "About?"
"You! Duh. Don't sound so worried. Your mom called me saying you needed a friend."
"Oh okay."
"So."
"So?"
"What's wrong?"
I could tell her. But I came here to get away. But now part of that is here. "What did my mom say?"
"She just said you needed me. That's it."
"Oh. Well. This guy I used to know showed up."
"Is it Max?"
"How'd you figure it out so fast?"
"On Friday I saw you two talking a bit. It looked like he was going to kiss you."
"You saw that?"
"Just that, then I walked away."
"Oh okay."
"Did you two kiss? Because you know that's the guy Christina slept with the night before." Bailey being curious meant I might as well spill it all.
"No we didn't kiss and I know that's the guy she slept with."
"Okay so where do you know him from?" She asks.
"We went to school together before I moved here."
"What grade?"
"Sixth through ninth."
"That's a long time. Does Christina know you know him?"
"Yes."
"And?"
"And what?"
"Is she weirded out that you two dated before?"
"What?" I stand up. "We never dated!"
"You didn't? Then why did he try and kiss you?"
"I don't know! Probably playing like Danny did!" I gasp. Shit...
"Who's Danny?"
