Chapter 2

Kill me

Sirens wail through the air and lights flash. I try to look around my but I can't focus. Everything's moving. Nothing is still. I blink and groan, feeling the pain all over my body.

Something hits my arm. I let out a scream.

"I need a shot of morphine!" Someone yells too loudly.

I continue screaming. "KILL ME!"

I feel a needle stab my arm right below my shoulder.

I scream again.

The vehicle turns a corner. Then another.

"JUST KILL ME!"

The vehicle turns a corner again and comes to a halt. People around me are scrambling. A big door opens and I'm pulled out on a roller.

I realize I'm at a hospital just as the gurney hits the ground. I scream again.

Slowly I realize the pain is less. Then nothing.

-----

Faintly I hear machines beeping. I open my eyes and blink a couple of times.

Looking around, I can tell I'm in a hospital room. The walls are white, and there is one window with the blinds drawn. There are two doors, one going in to a hallway, the other, probably, in to a bathroom. There's two cuboards, one standing next to the window and the other next to a sink. In a chair in the corner is my mother sleeping

"Mom..." I croak. Nothing. I try again. "Mom..."

She startles awake. "Oh baby!" My mom is next to me on the bed in a second. "Oh baby." She slowly rocks me back and forth in her embrace.

"Mom. That hurts." She lets go of me.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sweetie." She stands up. "Umm I'm going to get a nurse." She turns and runs out of the room.

Slowly it comes back to me. Kissing Danny, running down the hill, the car. I groan.

My mother and a nurse come back to the room.

"Are you okay?" The nurse asks me.

"No. I hurt all over." Tears leak out of the corners of my eyes.

"Okay. Well, I'll give you another dose of morphine, and you should fall asleep. Do you want something to eat before you sleep?" The nurse asks me.

"No, I'm not hungry."

"Okay well, I can talk to your doctor about giving nutrients through your IV."

"Okay."

She pushes a couple of buttons on a machine. "Okay you should be asleep in about ten minutes."

"Thanks."

"No problem, Thalia. Oh, my name is Stacy. Just push the nurse call button if you need anything." Stacy says.

"Okay."

"Sleep well." Stacy leaves.

"Thalia." My mom turns to me.

Uh oh...

"Yes mom?"

"What the hell happened?" She pulls her chair right up next to my bed.

I can tell her. I've always told her everything. "I watched a movie with Danny at his house and after he kissed me then I found out he only did all of that for a bet. Uh I ran away from him to the bus stop, I think. And got hit."

"Oh baby... I'm sorry. I know how much you like Danny."

"Liked, mom. Liked Danny." I correct her.

"Oh right. I'm sorry, Thalia."

"Me, too..." More tears slip out.

My mom stands up and kisses my forehead. "He was stupid to think you're something to bet on."

I let out a sob.

"Shhh... Just try to sleep. I'll read to you, okay?"

"Okay..." I choke out.

"The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants?" she asks me.

"Yes, please..."

"Once upon a time there was a pair of pants. They were an essential kind..."
