Erin's POV

After driving in silence for a while, I decided to speak up. "Jake, what did Britney tell you?". It was obvious he was hiding something; I could see the worry in his eyes.

His green eyes flashed over to me for a second, attempting to mask the nervousness behind them, and perhaps pain. "Nothing, Erin, I told you this already. You wanna stop and get some breakfast before school? We have time"

"Sure, yeah, I guess", I could see he was easily trying to change the subject as he turned the blue Honda towards the other direction. "It's just that you seemed a little bit freaked out, ya know?"

He continued to drive, keeping his eyes steady in front of the road ahead at all times. "Do you trust me?"

"What?", I was taken aback by his question. Yes I trust him, but what does that have to do with anything?

"I said, do you trust me?", he repeats a little more darkly this time.

"I mean yeah, Jake, you're my best friend"

"Good", his jaw presses into a thin hard  line. "Then this conversation is over"

It's not often that I hear Jake being serious like this, so I'm more than baffled by the tone in his voice and the look in his eyes. Whatever Britney told him must've really got under his skin, but I decided to leave the conversation alone for now.

After stopping at the drive thru of our local breakfast inn, Jake swerves the direction of the car towards school once more.

I have to admit, I've never seen Jake this quiet. The car continues to remain silent, and the smell of hashbrowns, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee is the only thing that fills the air.

Jake briefly looks at me, then sighs. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be like that with you. It's just, you wouldn't stop bringing it up-"

"No, it's fine", I cut him off. "I'm sorry for bringing it up again"

"Well, it looks like we're both sorry", Jake semi smiles as he takes a sharp turn into our school's parking lot.

Suddenly, I hear a plump, and feel a small ammount of hot coffee hit my arm.

"What the?", Ignoring the burning sensation I instantly retrieve, I look down into the coffee, which lies lifeless in the cup holder, to see Jake's phone floating in the steamy substance. "Uhm,  Jake?"

"Huh?", he follows my gaze down to the cup. "Shit", he jerks his phone out of the cup, letting the phone hit the floor, getting coffee on his pant's legs and shirt in the process

"SHIT!!!", he yells, viciously shaking his hand and thrashing his legs under his seat belt.

"Are you crazy?!", I yell. "Why would you stick your hand in a cup full of steaming hot coffee? "

However, Jake ignores me as he studies his white polo in agony. "This was a new shirt, dammit"

"VANESSA, WATCH OUT!!!", I hear someone yell from the outside of the car.

Is that Chris?

Then, time did that funny thing where it froze again.

Where it freezes when my eyes land on her.

A smile plasters her face as she walks backwards, slowly walking towards the already in motion blue Honda. I look

over to Jake who still has his hand on one wheel, while the other hand wipes at his shirt with napkins; his eyes fixated below and not ahead.

My eyes are wide until I finally muster up the words caught in my throat. "JAKE, STOP THE CAR!! "

Looking up, Jake's face goes into panic as he slams his foot on the break, but it's too late as the car still makes a collision to the gorgeous brunette in front of us, leaving her to land flat on the side of her face and body.
