Erin's POV.
I remember my 6th birthday party.
And unlike the brutal after effects, the beginnings were memorable, without leaving that tragedy of a feeling in my heart.
I invited everyone from school for cake and ice cream in my back yard. My father checked the weather all week, constantly making sure to ease my worries of any dark clouds and rain
"Daddy, are you sure there won't be any of the dark clouds and rain in the sky on my birthday?" I would ask him this all week until the Saturday of my birthday.
"I'm sure", he would smile and bend down to plant a small but enormous heart warming kiss on my cheek. "Stop worrying, Erin. I've checked the weather a thousand times on the news. It's suppose to be around 80 degrees this Saturday on the 16th"
"Okay" and I would smile up at him.
I remember Ashley, Jake, Britney, Marilyn, all my other friends, even Chris...all sitting at a long wooden table in my back yard. The birds chasing each other in the radiant blue sky; the sun gleaming down on us from above.
I remember the sound of giggles, and the smears and smudges of vanilla ice cream and chocolate cake on every kid who chased each other through the bright green grass. I swung my feet back and forth with a smile, not caring for the chocolate painted around my mouth or the ice cream drizzling down my chin.
Someone tapped my shoulder.
Turning in my seat, I saw her.
"Hi!", she laughed and giggled in my face, furiously waving her left hand back and forth.
"Hi, Ashley!", I laughed and smiled, all at the same time.
"I'm sitting next to you. First, I'll get some sweets, then I'll sit next to you", she ran off and returned with a plate of cake and ice cream two minutes later. Then, she sat in the empty spot besides me.
I felt her grab my hand, too
"You're holding my hand", I smile up at her.
"Of course I am. It is your birthday", she smiled back at me.
And while she ate some cake with her one hand, I looked up to find Jake leaning on Britney's shoulder, sleeping. She simply smoothed his brown hair out his face and planted a soft kiss on his forehead.
When she caught me looking up at them, she simply said "Jakey had too much cake, and now he is tired. I do love my Jakey. I do love my twin" She then nuzzled her head in his brown hair.
"I know", I replied, tightening my grip on Ashley's hand. I felt her slipping away.
Her hand.
"Eat some more ice cream", she turned to me, slipping a spoon full of ice cream in my mouth. "It is good, Erin"
"Thanks, I know", I talked with a mouth full of ice cream.
"Your eyes", she laughed.
"My eyes?"
"Your eyes are blue like the sky, Erin. I like your sky blue eyes"
I want to tell her that I like her eyes too, but I don't. I find nothing beautiful about her grayish eyes.
I say something else instead.
"I like your hair, too. It is yellow just like the sun", I grinned from ear to ear, and she simply laughed in return, placing the spoon on her plate.
