Chapter 43
Thanksgiving Day.
Charlie had left to go to Cat's place. Ashley baked and cooked majority of the food the day before, all that was left was to cook the turkey and ham along with a dish or two that could be done in one to two hours. Johnny promised to come early to help set up the table, their time spent alone gave her a chance to ask him questions about his family, mainly need to know bases.
Are you sure, absolutely positive, your mom is not allergic to anything I made?
Ashley was more than a nervous wreck, she was one hiccup away from a full blown panic attack. Her hands fidgeted over the table cloth a dozen of times, she checked to see if the food was alright, then she double checked, and quadruple checked. Her insistence for perfection didn't stop there; Ashley re-cleaned the spotless kitchen, she inched her best china dishes into place, the curtains were drawn and drawn again. Johnny allowed himself a drink from the fruit punch pitcher.
He rolled his eyes, "Calm down sweetheart, everything is fine." Johnny caught his reflection through the steel fridge door, and fixed a single strand of greased hair back into its place. It was adorable how his girl was freaked out so much, guess she really wanted to make a good impression to his mom and siblings.
I am calm, and I swear if you contradict me you'll see just how calm I can get!
Johnny raised his arms in mock surrender, "I'll shut my trap then princess."
Good.
He chugged half of his beverage, a smirk on his face,"My mom said she'll be here around 5 with the rowdy bunch."
That's in 10 minutes!
Ash ran up the stairs to freshen up, not at all needing to.
Johnny gladly watched his girlfriend jog up the steps, his gaze stayed a little too long on her. Her beautiful curly, raven hair was pulled back in a classy, elegant braided bun updo. She wore a mustard yellow pencil skirt and a sleeveless white blouse, finished off with a wide black belt to tie together the assemble. The corners of Johnny lips tugged upwards, his eyes roamed up and down her body. Ash looked grown, like the mature woman she was. She appeared to be more mature than half the women he knew. Johnny lived with disbelief that she was his girl. A lovestruck smile found its way onto his lips, "She's mine, forever and always."

As soon as Ash set down her makeup brush on the table, the doorbell rang. Johnny moved to answer it, but Ash ran so fast, she tackled him to the floor.
Wait! We have to decide who answers the door.
Johnny gasped for breath, the sudden weight of her body on his took the air out of his lungs. He'd be lying if he said her attack didn't scare him. The greaser couldn't believe the next eight words that slipped out of his mouth,"Can you get off of me, baby girl?"
She did.
We'll answer the door together babe.
Shakily, Ash reached for the door handle. This was it. She was about to meet her boyfriend's family for the first time. Whatever nerves or fears she had, she showed none of it on her face. Recalling her father's relentless lessons and advice, she kept a clear mind and a steady heart. She glanced only once at Johnny's face, his nonchalant expression added to her calm. He slipped an arm around her waist, a firm nod of his head pushed her to open the door.
Silver metal felt icy cold underneath Ashley's finger tips. She clutched the knob tightly, appreciating the chill of the metal brought to her exceeding warm body. Then after what felt like forever, she opened the door.
