The Act of Letting Go

*This poem isn't about anyone,  just the act of letting someone go.*

You washed clean away,

From me like the rain.

My brain let you go,

But my heart still remained.

And you spread your wings,

Because I set you free.

Then you flew away,

Without looking back at me.

I knew you were gone,

Never to return.

So I held back the tears,

And swallowed the burn.

I had nothing but memories,

Pedals in the wind.

A gentle whisper to the ear,

A slight touch to the skin.

You washed clean away,

From me like the rain.

And I let you go,

But all of this pain...
