Bulletproof Heart

Chapter 1

"No!" I yelled as I felt my family being ripped from my grasp. I got one last look at my daughter's terrified face before dust blocked my view. I fought against the guard I once called my brother but he wouldn't let go. "Mikey please" I begged but my younger brother just whispered "it's for the best Gee" with no remorse in his voice. His grip loosened and I managed to escape but it was too late. The government had taken everyone and as I turn to look around I see a town that was destroyed and torn apart.

I drop to my knees as I see Mikey turn and march with the rest of the stone faced soldiers. I stay there, numb, as silent tears roll down my face. I feel the presence of a tall man towering over me "it's time to go Gerard" a voice that was somehow familiar and comforting as well as distant and cold. Ray. I wanted nothing more than to fall into his warm arms and let him make everything better with his words of friendship like he always did. But he wasn't my friend anymore. He was one of them.

My weak legs barely support me as I stand to look into his warm, sympathetic eyes one last time before bolting as fast as my legs could carry me. Away from the mess and out of the town I used to call home to the edge of the looming trees reaching their arms out to grab me. I hesitate but in the end I knew none of it mattered anymore. I took one look back before I submerged myself into the evergreen darkness.

I struggled more with every breathe I take. Every step makes it harder to keep going. I knew that they weren't chasing me but it didn't matter at that moment. I wasn't running from them anymore. I was running from the chaos I left behind. That I had helped cause.

A sharp pain shot into my upper thigh and I hit the ground. I screamed in pain as I saw the thick crimson running from my leg mixing with the greens and browns of the undergrowth. My vision was blurring yet I managed to make out a single shape, the barrel of a gun staring down at me as the darkness consumes me.

Hello! This is the first proper story I'm publishing. I'm only posting the first chapter but if you guys like it I'll keep going with it I have a lot of ideas as to where this will go so let me know if you liked it but yeah. :))
