There is something truly beautiful about a storm.  The way that the rain,  thunder and lightning all compliment each other. The sensation of feeling the cool raindrops on your skin,  with the light show of lightning soon followed by thunder surrounding you.  It's a beautiful thing to Emmeline Johnson.  She was always fond of storms.
So far today had been perfect.  From the weather,  to the strawberry shortcake her mom had made for her birthday,  her "friends" inside enjoying themselves,  it was all perfect.  Well,  almost perfect that is.  There was only one thing missing; her father,  and her twin sister Elladora; or Ella for Short. She had a different last name as Emmeline. Elladora's last name was Jones . Technically she was twenty minutes older. When her parents had divorced her mother went back to her maiden name,  she also had Emmeline's changed as well.
She didn't see them all that often,  even though they lived only down the street from her. She spent the summers with him, though her Elladora didn't go to her mothers house.  Everytime she brought them up her mother seems rather touchy, and in a bad mood. She never wanted to talk about them.  Each summer was fun and had its own good memories.  He went to work during the day as most people do,  but she didn't know what he did.  Everytime she brought it up he would quickly change the subject,  and she knew not to push it.  She'd already learned that lesson.  She had pushed once before a few years ago and got herself grounded and without desserts or sweets for four days.  One day for each time she had continued to ask,  even when her father had told her to stop asking.  It seemed fair to her,  though her mother was livid. So she stayed home with Elladora and played or whatever.
Her mother and father had gotten a divorce after she had told him to leave not long after she Elladora and Emmeline were born. Emmeline didn't know why,  another thing she knew not to ask.  Not because she had been punished; but,  because of the sorrowful face her father had whenever it had come up.  Even when he picked her up and dropped her off,  she could still see the face of sorrow and sadness he had when he saw her mother.  The same face Emmeline made when she saw a toy or something she wanted but couldn't have it.
Mom had a new husband though,  which is why they moved from America.  They got to London only two months ago.  Though Emmeline was sad to leave her friends,  she didn't have many to leave.  She had two of the closest and best friend she hated to leave. The twins; Alex and Christine.  Alex was the analyst,  smart, and loved being safe.  He was the smartest person Emmeline knew.  Christine however was the dare devil,  roller coasters,  pranks,  equally as smart as her twin brother,  yet didn't enjoy learning as much as he did.  She would rather be at an amusement park,  at the skatepark or playing sports.
They were friends since birth.  Her father had known their parents; Beth and Jose Fernandez.  Jose was the school outcast,  Emmeline's father Marcus had taken in interest in him.  Intrigued by how many people didn't like him.  They had been friends since.
Because they were neighbors; Emmeline didn't have a desire to make more friends than she had.  She talked to people and was friendly towards them,  but nothing more than that.
Moving away from Alex and Christine had been harder than she anticipated.  She realised how much she was around them,  and how badly she needed them.  Even though they talked on the phone nearly every day,  it didn't seem like much; and still wasn't the same.
She was worried she would be replaced.
She was grateful however that she got to celebrate their birthday (April 4th) before she left.
Her mom walked up behind her and sat next to her on the wet curb she was sitting on.
"What're you doing out her honey?  It's wet,  and your friends are inside" Her mother said in a slightly frustrated tone.  The thing was is that everyone inside weren't really her friends.  Mostly people she had onto talked to at school.  She had bribed all of them into coming anyways.  She owed Samantha Stevens, a chubby but not yet blonde hair brown eyed girl; a cookie for all of the next school year. Owen Williams; a short red haired boy with dark green eyes and freckles covering his face, is getting 5€ tomorrow at school. Lily Ingleson; an average girl with blonde hair and green eyes, gets her lunch money for the rest of the school year; which wasn't so bad seeing as it only had three days left (it ends on July 17th)
Emmeline didn't hate school,  yet didn't like it either. She had gotten there so late,  and most of the people there had already decided to dislike her as soon as she stepped foot in the building.  Most of them hated her "obviously fake" (As some of the girls at her school said) American accent.  Especially a boy named Jack Cook,  a tall and thin boy with black hair and bright blue eyes. He seemed to dislike nearly everyone,  so Emmeline didn't really know how much to trust the things he said.
