The early morning hours we're eerie.
Quiet and still.  Everything was dark and calm.
It was a brand new day,  nothing to be angry at.  Nothing worth crying for,  no reason to die or live.  It was all a blank slate.
Emmeline was still on the roof of her house.
She had climbed up last night after she had lost her temper with her sister.
Emmeline couldn't face seeing them again.
She had hurt Elladora.
She saw her father's face full of terror,  of worry that Emmeline would do something awful.  That Emmeline would..... No she wouldn't.
She wouldn't,  no she couldn't kill Elladora.
Emmeline Sat up on the roof and looked again down on the neighborhood.
The house was on a hill,  so you could see hundreds of houses below.  Bright city streets,  street lights turned into small dots that looked like fireflies.
The sun was hardly peeking over the horizon.
The sky was a dark purple,  like grapes you'd see in the store.
Emmeline wiped the leaves off of her shirt and her face.
She had them in her hair,  she pulled all the ones she could,  but still felt like there were a lot left.
She had cried herself to sleep last night,  and felt like she could do it again.
She fell asleep as the sun was setting,  and awoke as it was rising.
Emmeline saw her reflexion in a water puddle.
She had almost forgotten that it had rained a little last night,  but it wasn't cold.
It was warm and pleasant.  Like a blanket of water to wrap its arms around her.
She looked at her skirt; she was still in her uniform.  It was pointless to wash it not,  it was ruined.  At least it looked ruined.
Emmeline looked at the birds nest about 20 meters away from her.
Little baby birds were emerging from their eggs.
The mother bird looked at Emmeline.
Emmeline smiled.  As though she cold read her mind,  perhaps it was her conscience; but she heard someone say to her "go back to your family".
Emmeline looked down. She wrapped her legs around the pillar in which she'd originally climbed up from.
Slowly she inched down until she reached the bottom,  and went under the patio.
She opened the back door and stepped inside the house.  It was much warmer than outside. Emmeline's bare feet touched the cold tile,  it felt nice the same way drinking lemonade does when it's hot outside.
Emmeline wandered around the kitchen,  the living room,  and looked upstairs; but she couldn't find her dad or Elladora. Had they left her?  Abandoned her because of her outburst? Had they decided she was too much to handle because of her outburst?  Did they call the police?  Or her mom?
Emmeline Sat on the couch and stared at the blank to screen.
She looked at it as though it were playing a movie. Just as it was yesterday.
" Get off the couch,  you're all dirty.  Clean it after you get up." It was Elladora.  She was standing on the stair landing.  The way she spoke was calm,  and very different from how she spoke the previous day.  Not only did she sound calm,  she looked calm.  Her eyes were still,  and she had an unreadable face.
She could be wishing Emmeline dead and Emmeline would be none the wiser.
Elladora turned to walk back upstairs,  but suddenly turned back as though she forgot something.
"Dads looking for you,  he left about thirty minutes ago. He said he'd come back every 2 hours. Oh and if I saw you to tell you to stay put; so.... Stay put" And she turned back towards the upstairs and started walking up.
Once again Emmeline was alone.  Alone for another hour and and half at least if not more. Emmeline looked around a land saw a familiar sight.  The door the underneath the stairs.
She walked over and opened the door.  Inside she saw streamers hanging,  with drawings and pictures on the wall.  Elladora and Emmeline used to hang out under here,  have tea parties,  though Elladora usually ended up arguing with the stuffed animals and threatening to sue them.  Once Emmeline could have swore that she saw one of them move,  but decided it was all her imagination.
Emmeline waved her hand and the door quietly closed.  Touched the light bulb and it turned on.  It was a recent trick she only discovered a couple months ago on accident.
Her light was turned off and in the middle of the night she had to go to the bathroom,  she accidentally walked into her lamp and it lighted up.  She enjoyed being able to do this.  It was fun to turn them on and off with a simple touch.
Emmeline held onto the light and looked for the light switch.  She found it right by the door.
She let go of the lightbulb and it turned off,  she had already had her hand reached out to flick the switch.  She turned the light back on,  and sat on one of the pillows inside.
Neither Emmeline nor Elladora had been inside it a while.  Around seven or eight they stopped tea parties, so it's been three or four years now.
Emmeline layed on her side,  and the light began to fade.  She saw an old teddy bear with a yellow tie tied around its neck.
Emmeline grabbed the bear and hugged it.
She fell asleep holding her favorite childhood stuffed animal.
