I sat in the principal's office. I didn't do anything wrong this time. I had a request to make for the upcoming prom.
"You see Principal Cole," I crossed my legs,"my little brother, Noah, is extremely sick. He has cancer and I don't know how long he has to live. I just want to take my little brother to prom."
"I don't know Faith," he rubbed his chin,"It's really a party for young adults. He's a child. He might see some things."
"I know Principal Cole, but...I don't think he'll make it to next year," I took a long pause to tried to stop the tears,"I'm trying really hard to make this the best year of his life."
"Faith, I'd love to let you go but," He looked at his computer,"You have too many disciplinary actions. I would just tell you to make Amaya take him but she is definitely is not allowed to go to prom for the same reasons you aren't."
"Principal Cole-"
"Cutting classes, rude and disrespectful to teachers, constantly absent and late."
"I only cut classes, am absent and late because I'm working. I'm paying for all of the bills, the food, the clothes on Noah and Hope's back-everything! I'm trying my hardest to support my family."
He looked shocked,"What about your parents?"
"My dad's a no show and my mom is no help."
"What do you mean by that?"
"She's a drug addict." It slipped out my mouth,"I mean she's working all the time. She's really busy-"
"It's ok. I won't tell child services. I know that would mean that you kids would have to be split up."
I sighed in relief,"That why I have so many jobs. I don't have time for school."
"But you have time for that silly little rock band."
"All of the money from the band goes to Noah's medical bills."
He got out his chair, sat next to me and rubbed my knee,"This must be very stressful. To be the parent, to work so many jobs, to pay the bills, and deal with school."
I felt uncomfortable but I said,"It is. So this one night will help me forget and make it all worth it by seeing that smile on his face."
"But there so many discipline problems-"
"Please Principal Cole, this isn't for me. It's for Noah." I felt the tears falling,"He doesn't have much time."
He wiped my tears,"I'm sorry but I just can't allow special privileges to bad students." He got up and circled around me.
"I swear I can get the grades up. I can help out around the school. I'll be nicer to the teachers," I begged, eyes watering again,"I'll do anything to take him to prom. Please Principal Cole, there's got to be some way that he can go."
He looked out the window and closed the blinds,"There is one way..."
I smiled,"Anything! I'll do anything!"
A wide grin spread across his face,"Are you as good in bed as your slutty cousin?"
I stared straight forward, smile completely wiped off my face,"What are you implying?"
I felt his hands rub my shoulders,"You're a pretty girl Ms.Miller. You'd make someone very happy with that body of yours."
"Get off me you creep!" I slapped his hands off me and got up,"No. I'm not doing anything with you!" I headed for the door.
The door knob was in my hand when he said,"Then you and that dying little boy don't go to prom! And I'll have child services take Noah and that bratty little girl away from you."
I stopped.
"Think about little Noah. How his face would just light up after you do a big fancy promposal. How excited he'd be to be at a big kid party. Partying the night anyway with his cool big sister." He rubbed my head,"think about it."
"...what do I have to do."
"I want you to get Amaya to join."
"No-I can't-I won't!" I moved my head away from him,"She wouldn't do it anyways."
"Oh please," I saw the anger in his eyes,"She'll sleep with the whole damn school." He cornered me,"Get Amaya or its no deal."
I put my head down in shame,"...Ok."
"This little deal, will let you, Amaya, and little Noah, into prom." His hands touched my breast,"And all you need to do to let Noah have the best night of his life, is just have one threesome with good ole Principal Cole. It's just one night."
"Ok."
"Screw this up and you're history."
"Ok." He backed off me and I went to leave.
"Oh Faith," he called to me while he took a seat in his big chair,"Don't forget to grab some condoms from the nurses office. You seem to really need them."
