Hank sat at his desk, examining Kara's DNA. He promised her he'd look for any signs of change or promise but ever since that day there has been nothing. Her genes were exactly the same each time. He assumed today would be no different, her genes would hold no promise as usual.
Except for this day, the day she assumed no hope would ever come. It was astonishing, the dna. It reminded him of someone he knew, the blue mutant who held his heart not so long ago. Part of the reason he felt so compelled to take this young girl under his wing.
"KARA!" He yelled out, taking off running out of his lab. The girl having just left a few moments before his examination, wasn't too far ahead. He ran down the hall his feet sliding on the hardwood floors, he could hear the fading footsteps further away.
Kara walked quickly, hearing the call of Hank louder every second. Her pace quickened even more not wanting to hear another speech by the man.
Passing in a lobby, Kara was shoved back by a blonde woman.
"What the hell is your problem, lady? You got a lot of nerve." She said sneering. The blonde woman chuckled and looked around.
"I need to find Charles Xavier. Or Hank McCoy. Any idea where I can find them?"
"Depends on who's asking." Her grimace stayed firm.
"Kara wait!" She heard Hank call. She stepped to the side, as if in a protective stance. When Hank came into the room, he froze at the scene. "Raven."
Kara turned back to her friend. "You know her? I thought she was here to hurt you and the professor. Maybe if you were polite."
"Says the girl who was ready to pounce." Hank watched the two converse, as he stay frozen in shock. They were so similar, with their fiery attitude and defensive guard.
"I was protecting the people I care about. I still don't even know who you are."
"Hank." Raven said, for Hank to clarify who she was.
"Raven. You're not blue." Was all he could fumble. Raven chuckled while Kara furrowed her brows, turning back to Raven.
"Fellow Mutant. Welcome to the club it sucks."
"Trust me I've known a lot longer about that." Kara turned to Hank once more for clarification. "Neither are you, Hank." Kara's countenance gave her away, as she became more confused every minute.
"So" She started to announce but was cut off by a blue boy popping up behind Raven.
"I'm blue." Kara looked at the boy in amusement but also shock. He seemed so open, it was weird to her.
"And I'm reptilian. We all have eyes, woohoo." She said in a dull tone, spinning her finger the way those who celebrate would. "Gotta bounce, I'm needed anywhere else."
"Kara wait." Hank stops her. "We need to talk about the results of your dna. I think I found something."
"Something that I've been wanting?" She asked with hope, Raven and Kurt could notice the eagerness she held.
Hank faltered. "No, but it's just as important. It's worth hearing about trust me." Kara went back to her expressionless countenance and started to walk once again.
"Kara." Raven called this time. "Take him. I need to talk to Hank." The mutant just rolled her eyes and beckoned for the blue mutant to follow. He looked at Raven, doubtful and then followed in suit.
Kara didn't care that the boy was following her, she kept her fast pace hoping to actually throw him off her trail. She used his fascination with the school to her advantage. She assumed he was a new student much like Scott was. But she only tolerated Scott, she didn't need another newbie around, she had enough problems.
Getting rid of him seemed to be the larger problem on hand. Turning the corner, Kara had lost him but in an instant he appeared by her side again, a puff of blue smoke accompanied.
"So. You teleport, huh?" She asks, stopping in her tracks. This seemed to be more difficult than she thought.
"Yes. I'm Kurt. Kurt Wagner." He holds out his three fingered hand.
"Kara." She shook his hand and gave a snarky smile, intending for it to frighten. But the boy only smiled wider at her.
