[N E W B E G I N N I N G S]
Jane's POV
I walked into the dorms for the last time. The dorms were dark and cold, I remember my first night here. I was shy and to make matters worse, the dorms were co-ed. Oh joy. Surprisingly, I became used to the dorms, when you come back from combat training you really don't think too much about the people around you but the broken nose or blood adorned across your face, wondering whose blood it was exactly. I made a friend, Samantha or Sam as she liked to be called. And Nick, her boyfriend. Both made it to be full dauntless members and now shared an apartment together.
I continued to pack my bags as I thought more about Sam and Nick. It seemed as though everyone I had been with during initiation had found someone. A partner, companion, someone to call your own. I didn't have that person, but I really didn't care. Sam had tried to hook me up with a couple friends or acquaintances of hers but it never worked out. It wasn't that I didn't want someone to be with but I really wasn't looking for anyone. If he came along sure I'd open my heart to him and take a chance but until then, I am perfectly fine being by myself.
I finished packing my bags and walked back to my apartment. Sam and I had originally planned to live next door to each other but our current career choices got in the way of that. Sam went on to be a tattooist, Nick a combat trainer. I had higher dreams. Coming in second in initiation ranks, I was approached by Max himself for a position as a dauntless leader after Tris, a former abnegation girl, turned down the job. I gladly accepted and now live in the apartments set aside for dauntless leaders.
It was a big change to live by myself. I had become used to living with Sam and the other transfers. Living alone wasn't bad though, I had my space, I had peace and quiet. And when I became too lonely, I visited Sam in her tattoo parlor. I didn't have my tattoos but I had piercings along the cartilage of both ears and one below the left side of my lip.

I pulled my bleach blonde almost white hair back into a high ponytail, my bangs and side fringe still in my eyes. I put away the articles of clothing I collected from the dorms. I didn't start my next training shift until Monday which was four days from now. I sat on my bed as I thought about what I would learn next to be a leader of dauntless. That was when his face popped into my head, Eric. I hadn't known the stern faced man for long or at all for that matter. When I was second to jump from the ledge into dauntless the first day of initiation, he was there at the net. When we shot at our targets during the first stages, my position was off and he corrected me. When we first spared and I had taken down the biggest male in our group of transfers, he congratulated me and left after giving me an ice pack for my eye. These are the little things I dwell on. To anyone else it would be trivial to reminisce on such meaningless gestures but that was it, they weren't meaningless. Eric wasn't known to show any emotion or affection of any kind to anyone. To everyone he was heartless but I didn't see that. Not then, not now.
Being a dauntless leader in training, I got an opportunity to be close to Eric. I was determined to find out more about this heartless young man.

And that is the first chapter to my first Divergent Fan Fiction! I've never written a chapter by chapter story before but I will work hard to make this as good as possible. A little back story/ side note, Four and Tris still exists but Jane was in the same initiate group as Tris. Jane came second, after Tris and the war is postponed. I reeeeeeally don't want to change the original Divergent story for this particular story. Also, this story won't be long. I don't have much plot for this story, it's kind of an experimental story to give me a feel of writing a legitimate story instead of one shots.
