Mr. Harbour and Winona refused to let us walk home.
Now Sadie and I were sitting in the back seat of his car awkwardly. She stared out the window as I looked at my hands in silence. I couldn't stop thinking of tonight. Had that really happened? Did I really kiss Millie not once, not even twice, but three times? It was unreal, and on the inside I was beaming with joy.
"How long have you two been friends?"
My thoughts were interrupted by Mr. Harbour. Luckily, Sadie answered the question because I hadn't even heard him.
"Since seventh grade. Our friend Iris introduced us."
Mr. Harbour nodded.
"I read about your friend. I'm real sorry."
We both stayed quiet. Sorry was a phrase we heard to often when it came to Iris. Everyone was sorry.
"Mr. Harbour? I actually have a question."
I looked to Sadie curiously. He glanced at her in the rearview mirror and nodded for her to continue.
"So Noah was telling me that you guys didn't do anything last Halloween, so you probably weren't doing anything tomorrow."
Mr. Harbour nodded again.
"Well Finn and I were wondering if maybe Noah and Millie could come with us tomorrow? We're going trick or treating and then we were going to watch horror movies at my house."
We were going trick or treating tomorrow? I didn't know that. I didn't question it either though. Sadie was brave, I had to give her that. It was quiet for a few moments before Mr. Harbour spoke.
"I don't know..."
"I know they don't have phones but I'll have my phone on me at all times so you could keep in touch with them. Or Noah could use Winona's again. We could even check in to your house as often as you'd like, the neighborhood isn't big."
I nodded at Sadie's words. She had good arguments. I looked at Mr.Harbour, trying to see if it was persuading him or not.
"You know Sadie, I want to let them go, I really do. I just don't know if Millie is ready for that.
I sighed. At least Sadie tried.
"With all due respect sir, it really should be up to Millie to decide what she's ready for."
I looked at Sadie in surprise. I would be scared to talk to him like that. He sighed before speaking again.
"Okay, how about I talk to them in the morning and see how they feel about it. We'll decide from there and I'll let you guys know when you get out of school tomorrow."
Sadie nodded in satisfaction.
"That's actually perfect Mr.Harbour."
It was quiet again, and we finally arrived at Sadie's house. We climbed out of the car and thanked him before walking into Sadie's house quietly. Her parents were asleep, so we snuck up to her room fast. Once we were in, Sadie closed to door and plopped onto the bed.
"Tell me everything!"
I knew this was coming. Was there a point in acting like I didn't know what she was talking about? Probably not.
"We kissed."
I slapped my hand over Sadie's mouth quickly as she screamed. I gave her a look and she licked my hand, making me groan and pull it away.
"You're disgusting."
"I knew you kissed on the ferris wheel! How was it? Did you kiss her or did she kiss you?"
