Waking up to Sadie singing wasn't something I had been expecting.

She had a small cupcake in her hand, a single candle sticking out of it. I smiled as she continued to sing. I almost forgot it was my birthday. The song ended and she held the cupcake in front of my face as I sat up.

"Make a wish!"

I thought about it. Did I have anything to wish for? My mom automatically came to mind. I just wanted her back but that shouldn't be something I have to wish for though. A smile came across my face at another thought and I blew out the candle.

"What'd you wish for? Wait never mind don't tell me."

Sadie plucked the candle out of the cupcake and handed the whole thing to me.

"I can't eat sweets for breakfast."

"It's your birthday, you can do anything."

I rolled my eyes at her reply and bit into the cupcake. Red velvet was my favorite and I smiled at the fact that Sadie knew.

"So, first on the list today is breakfast."

I swallowed the bite of cupcake in my mouth.

"I thought this was my breakfast?"

Sadie laughed.

"No, you have more. I thought we'd go into town and eat at IHOP. I know you like their pancakes."

I lit up at the mention of IHOP pancakes. I would probably die for them, I loved them that much. I nodded enthusiastically.

"Should we invite-"

"Millie and Noah are busy for the morning but we'll be going by later. Calm down, you'll get to see your girlfriend."

I scoffed at her words.

"She's not my girlfriend yet."

She smirked and raised an eyebrow.

"Yet?"

I rolled my eyes and groaned.

"You know we can't be together yet."

"Yeah yeah, you have to wait until she's sixteen blah blah blah. You guys are practically dating already anyway."

I sighed. Two months was too long for me to wait. Sure, Millie and I acted like we were boyfriend and girlfriend, but I still wanted to be able to put that label on it. I wanted everyone to know she was my girlfriend, but right now she couldn't really be called that.

"Alright get out so I can get dressed."

Sadie nodded and stood up.

"Be fast, we have lots to do today!"

She closed the door behind her and I sighed.

Eighteen.

I never would have thought that I'd be in the place I'm at now. I expected eighteen to be just another year added on to my age. I didn't expect to have lost touch with my parents, I didn't expect to be living with Sadie, and I definitely didn't expect Millie to come into my life.

I didn't expect all of the change I would go through in three short months, but I definitely wouldn't change it either.

I climbed out of bed and looked through my clothes, picking out a black and grey flannel and plain jeans. A knock on the door had me hurrying as I tied my shoes.

"Finnie let's go!"

I got up and opened the door to see Sadie standing with her hand on her hip and her foot tapping. She looked up when I opened the door and smiled wide. She grabbed my arm and practically dragged me down the stairs in a rush.
