Wounded

I woke up to the smell of savory breakfast being cooked. You could hear the little pops and crackles that the bacon would make. The sweet sizzle of pancakes. I quickly throw on some shorts and a black T-shirt. I go brush my teeth, braid my hair, gather my things, and go down stairs to eat breakfast.

"Hey Stephanie." I greeted my stepmom

"Your plate is on the table." She pointed where it was

"Thanks"

I sit down and enjoy the delicious meal. My phone dinged and I got a text from Grayson.

Grayson: Morning sunshine. I'm going to come put you up. Be ready in 10 Xoxo

I smile from ear to ear.

'He's so sweet'

I finish my food and wash my plate. As I finished that I heard the doorbell ring.

"I'll get that" Stephanie walked to the door

Grayson's P.O.V.

As I waited at the door, I was imagining what Valerie was going to wear today.

"Hello?"

I was not expecting someone other than Valerie to answer.

"Uh hello. Is Valerie here?" I stammer

She closes the door but I hear her scream Valerie's name. I can slightly hear her shoes faintly tap against the tile. The door opens again with a squeak. Her graceful face welcomes the whole world with a bright smile.

"You are stunning."

"Thank you." she picked my chin up and gave a small peck on my cheek. She walked in front of me to the Bronco.

'I mean I guess I could indulge in my desire'

I gave a quick stare as she walked.

'That's definitely a plus'

As I zoned back into reality I got into the car and drove to school. We arrived to school quickly. She lives pretty close to school. I parked the car and opened her door to let her out.

Valerie's P.O.V.

Grayson opened the door for me.

'He's such a gentleman'

It was so different walking into school today. Everyone was staring like something was wrong. Some were glares, from the popular girls. A few girls whispered and gave scoffs. I didn't care, I flipped my hair in return. Grayson started to catch on so he stopped me in the middle of the hallway. His hands cupped  my cheeks and gave a long passionate kiss. I could feel everyone's eyes glued on us. So many burned my back with the envy. Even though all this was happening, I was focusing on how the kiss took me to another world. It was magical.

"Well babe, if they want to stare let's show them what we can do." He winked.

"Oh Gray..." I smiled.

I grabbed his hand and started to walk to Dani and Aaron.

I gave Dani a hug as I greeted her. Grayson and Aaron did their thing as me and Dani walked to class. I told her that Grayson picked me up and kissed me at school. She was so intrigued liked a kid hearing a fairytale.

"Awe, he's definitely a keeper!" Dani squealed.

"I know! He makes me so happy! I can't wait till Saturday. Wait...speaking of Saturday, I NEED A DRESS!" I started to panic.

How could I be so irresponsible and forget a dress?

"Don't worry we will go shopping after school. I need a couple more things too." Dani chuckled.

"Thanks for coming through."

"Valerie you know you can always count on me." Dani smiled

I love Dani's smile. It was so bright and innocent. She definitely had an unforgettable smile.

*Lunch*

Today has been a normal quiet day. Uninteresting like always. The cafeteria was slowly filling up with kids. I arrived earlier than normal. I wasn't hungry so I decided to sit down instead. I chose an empty table by the wall. Since I was by myself I went on my phone to check updates on social media. After 5 minutes no one has came to lunch.

'Where is everyone?'

I text Dani asking where she is and I get no reply. I look up and try to scope out Dani. I don't see her anywhere. I hear sirens driving by outside.

'I wonder what's happening?'

I grab my things and walk out of the cafeteria. As I walk through the hallway I notice a familiar face.

Landon waves at me but I look down and try to ignore it.

'I don't want to get into this right now'

He walks up to me and grabs my hand. I yank my hand out of his grip.

"Hey! Calm down. What's wrong?" He says confused.

"I'm sorry I'm trying to find Dani."

"Oh..." Landon looks down like somethings wrong.

"What? Landon can you hurry I don't have time for this."

"Uh Valerie...Dani went to the hospital."

"WHAT?!" I screamed. "There's no way this is true."

"I'm sorry Val"

"What happened to Dani?" I slowly choke out the words.

"She fainted and hit the edge of a table with her head. There was a lot of blood."

Landon hugs me tight but I'm in disbelief. I stand there frozen. I can feel little tears slowly drip down my cheeks.
