Dear diary,
Today was the first Saturday of school...
It was still weird waking up to a completely silent house. No older brother shouting at his gaming console, no parents shouting at me to get up to do my chores and no baby brother crying. It was rather relieving actually.
As I pad around the house at around 10 in the morning I feel calm. The air is still warm from the heater in the lounge, which has warmed up most of the house. I walk into the kitchen and grab out whatever I need to make pancakes.
I hear the sound of my ringtone go off and I stop stirring the bowl of half made pancake mix. I put the whisk down and pick up my phone, which was sitting on the kitchen island behind me.Hey hon,
We finally arrived in Nepal.
I sigh and continue to mix the pancake batter.
'I'm surprised that they even remember.'
Once I finish mixing the batter I sit the whisk down and walk over to the stove, where a pan was already hot. Just as I was about to pour in the first lot of batter into the pan, the doorbell rings.
I let out an annoyed grunt before waddling to the door. When I open the door I come face to face with Connor.
"Can I help you?" I ask, raising a brow.
Connor doesn't say anything for a moment.
"Hey C-"
"Can I come in?" He asks.
"Just because I let you come to my place to smoke once doesn't make it your designated place to get high." I grumble.
"I didn't bring any weed with me." he shrugs.
"Then why are you here?" I ask, exasperated.
"Had a fight with my parents," he states bluntly, "didn't have anywhere else to go."
I pause for a moment before sighing.
"Alright, come on in," I finally speak up, "you hungry? 'Cause I'm making pancakes."
I step aside and let Connor in and shut the door behind him. I walk back into the kitchen, Connor trailing behind me.
"Just take a seat and I'll cook up breakfast."
~~~
"There we go," I hum, sitting the large stack of pancakes in the middle of the island, "I'll just grab some plates."
I grab two plates and two sets of knives and forks. I sit one lot in front of Connor and take a seat on the stool beside him. I grab a few pancakes and pour a generous amount of maple syrup on them. Without waiting I dig in, stuffing my face with the syrupy goodness. I manage a glance at Connor, who only had two pancakes on his plate.
"Dude, eat more than that." I manage to day with my mouth full.
Once I finish my pancakes I stand up and place my plate in the sink. I turn to see Connor behind me, plate in hand. I hold my hand out and he hands me the plate, which I also put in the sink. I take the plate that still had pancakes on it and put it in the fridge.
"Alright, let's go to the lounge room" I say and we walk down the hall to the lounge.
"Do you play Videogames?" I ask as I pick up a pair of controllers.
"Not really" he mutters.
"Well, I'll teach you then"
~~~
"Alright, we have Cheese or Cool Ranch!" I call from the kitchen.
"Cool Ranch!" I hear him holler back.
I nod to myself and grab the pack of Doritos, pouring them into a large bowl. I wander back into the lounge and sit the bowl on the coffee table.
"So, do you want to watch a movie?" I ask, glancing at the boy.
"Sure," he replies, "you pick."
I nod and stand up; I walk over to the shelves with all of the DVDs on it. I pick out Black Panther and take slide it into the DVD player.
"This movie is awesome" I say as I sit back down.
~~~
Next thing I remember is waking up with the title screen of Black Panther on the TV. I let out a groggy groan and adjust myself as I close my eyes again. I feel my pillow shuffle slightly and groan again.
"(Y/n)?" A voice mumbles.
"Hm?" I hum.
"What time is it?"
I glance out the window to see the orange and yellow sky.
"Probably afternoon" I mumble and shuffle again.
"I should probably go home," the voice says, "otherwise Larry will be on my ass."
I grumble and sigh.
"(Y/n)" the voice says and shakes me.
I groan and I sit up. My eyes open and glanced over at the place where I was just laying down. And I see Connor.
"Oh geez," I mumble lazily, "sorry about falling asleep on you."
I see the corner of Connor's lip curve up, almost smiling.
"It's fine," he says, "I'll head home now, talk to you at school I guess."
"Yeah, sure thing" I say.
We both stand up and head to the front door.
"Hey Connor, are we friends?" I ask, fiddling with the bottom of my shirt.
Connor goes quiet and I look up to see him staring at me, his mouth slightly agape. I look back down at my feet.
"I mean, you don't h-"
"Yeah" he cuts me off.
My head shoots up and before I can reply he opens the door and walks out.
...and I think I made a friend.
