Raina flicked her eyes to Lillian, who then exchanged glances with Eloise, who then eyed Dee carefully. Eloise had heard the entire conversation, and had decided that you could certainly cut the awkwardness with a dull butter knife, but she held herself back from saying much.
     "He's a likable person."
She shrugged her shoulders and scoffed. She would've spoken more, of a high pitched squeal hadn't interrupted her.
"That little twit is at it again!"
Eloise rolled under her breath.
"I swear if he comes in here-"
She spoke too soon. Maverick swung open the door, a large grin spread across his dirty face.
"So I heard we have a new patient!"
He cooed, keeping his eye on Dee.
"With that said, I have a very important matter to discuss with her."
"No, maverick. No one wants to listen to your idiotic comments."
Eloise spat, folding her arms in front of her chest in retaliation, but maverick ignored her words.
"Now now now, Eloise. Don't interrupt me. If I'm not allowed to talk over you, you are certainly not allowed to talk over me."
     "We'll see about that."
Eloise raised her eyebrows high as she observed his movements. He was surly acting as though he was which on dugs, but she knew it was merely his insanity eating away at his brain cells.
      "Oh, Miss Raina...~"
"Lemme stop you right there, bud. I ain't taking any of your annoying crap today, so move along."
Rain held up her hand, using her free one to run a hand through her hand while she popped a bubble of gum in his face.
Stomping his foot in frustration, maverick grunted to himself as he stepped over to Lillian.
     "Lillian~"
"Listen, little parasite. No means no, so beat it- please."
Lillian snickered, silently cursing at him in her head. She would never do it in person, but her thoughts allowed her to stay sane, especially when maverick was jumping all over her nerves.
"You don't even let me speak!"
Maverick cried.
"You ask the same thing everyday. It's the only thing you ever think about."
Eloise complained.
"Maybe if you spoke about something interesting then I wouldn't have the sudden urge to beat you to a pulp."
Maverick stuck his tongue out at her, finished with the three of them as he caught Dee's glance once again.
Gliding over to her, he grinned.
      "So...hello~ I'm maverick..."
Dee had whipped her head around to the door in alarm at the squeal and wondered what in the word was going on. Was it a chicken? Wait...wait no. Chickens didn't make that noise....it must be a goat! Or maybe a dinosaur...did they even let giant prehistoric creatures roam around here? She was quite disappointed at first to find that it was not a dinosaur, a goat or even a chicken that came running in, but rather a young boy.
However, her excitement slowly grew as she watched him wonder around from person to person trying to ask his question. It reminds her of someone a little bit...but she couldn't really remember who.
Dee smiled widely as maverick introduced himself. She tilted her head, and broke completely out of her daze.
"I'm dee! But all my friends call me Dee!"
She exclaimed, simply repeating when she'd introduced herself to Eloise.
"And I love buffalos! Do you want to join my herd?"
Dee stared down at him for a moment, wide eyed and forgetting her own question from before to ask a complete new one.
"What were trying to ask? Do you have a beard too? Were you going to ask them to join your herd?"
She giggled happily at the thought of another herd. She knew she wasn't alone! Of course there were more herds!
She clapped and knelt down so that she was the same height and level as maverick.
"What does your herd do? How did you find each other? I've had my herd since I was born. I've grown up with them for seventeen years! Or...eighteen! Nineteen! It was nineteen...I think. Maybe."
Dee's voice trailed off and she looked at the ground, trying to remember how long she had been alive. She knew it hadn't been so long that she was really old or so short that she was really young. Dee was sure she was nineteen though she and her hers seemed to like that number the best so that was probably it.
      "Don't say anything Mav-"
Raina began,  but she sighed and rolled her eyes at the sight of Maverick's grin. He shot out his hand to shake, she was the one. He was finally going to be able to get another set of hands to keep and treasure forever. All of the other patients and doctors thought is was 'inhumane' and 'vial' that he collected him, whatever those words meant. He supposed they meant something bad against himself so there was no use to try and learn how to read to look them up. Besides, whatever it was they meant, it wasn't! It was simply a hobby that was getting out of HAND. Haha! He laughed at himself in honor of his excellent joke as he waited for his hand to be shook by this potential girl.
Of course if he was able to get a hold of a new set of beautiful, smooth hands, he wouldn't certainly never replace his mother's. Her hands were his absolute favorite. He kept them in a specific spot right in the front pockets of his overalls. Eloise thought he stunk terrible, but he thought his mother's hands smelt beautifully. Well...hand. He had once had the set of two but Madelyn had gotten ahold of one...and threw it away like it was garbage. The one he still had didn't smell like her at all, but then again. They were a year old. He guessed her perfume wore off about the thrift day of having them. He would have his father's hands as well, along with his baby sisters, but after the baby's hands were gone as heard his father shouting something about blood loss. His dad had taken his own mother away from him! How rude! Oh, how he missed his mother, her smile, her warm hugs, her voice, and she was so beautiful. His father had the Gaul to take her away from him! He didn't take his baby sister with him did he? What if she was back at the house?! Well...of course she wasn't because the last Day maverick had been playing with matched he had found on the counter top and his father had father had dropped that's stupid  bottle of alcohol when he had spotted him. The only memory he had left of his house was that yellow, orange, blue stuff that hurt whenever he would get too close to it.
Anyways, how long had he been holding his hand out? Had she even shaken it yet? He couldn't remember. What was the rest of the group doing? He turned around. Lillian was by the window sipping a soda in her hands, Eloise had went back to reading on a novel, and Raina was talking to someone on the phone.
Raina's hands were perfect. They were so smooth and her nails were always perfectly painted. He also wanted a strand of her hair because gosh! Look at the colors! What kind of foundation did she use, or was her face that clear? Wa she that lucky? And this new person...Dee? Was that it? By goodness she was a goddess all in herself. He would have to get to know her better later after he had gotten her hands of course.
