(Y/n) was in high spirits this morning. She'd never been excited for school before. Most of the time, she'd just wake up in a dull, neutral mood with nothing to look forward to. But she'd changed that. They changed it.
Throwing on some clothes that she'd picked the night before and styling her hair how she normally did it, she turned on her computer and immediately logged onto Socialoid. She had a very new and different feed now, her friends posting about all kinds of things. By the looks of it, Rin and Meiko were up all night, as they each had several posts from one in the morning.
While scrolling through her feed, (Y/n) saw the red notification bell pop up in her messages inbox. Excitedly, she clicked on it, happy to see she'd gotten a message from Kaito.
Kaito: Hey (Y/n)! Good morning!
(Y/n): Good morning, Kaito ^^
Kaito: I think I saw you yesterday on the way home, do you walk?
(Y/n): Yeah, just something I offered I do so my mom doesn't have to worry about getting me. Plus it means some quiet time for me. The walk usually is about an hour and a half
Kaito: OMG
Kaito: That's too long of a walk! Do you want a ride in the mornings? I'll gladly take you!
(Y/n): Oh, you don't have to worry about that, really...
Kaito: It isn't a bother at all, especially if it's for you! What's your address?
(Y/n): Oh, thank you ^^;; it's (address). It's like half a mile east from downtown.
Kaito: We live fairly close, haha. I'll be there in about 30 minutes, okay?
(Y/n): Alright! Thank you so much!
Kaito: It's my pleasure!
(Y/n) ran downstairs with her backpack and set it by the door. Her mom was at the stove, making pancakes. Her mother glanced at the clock. "Honey, shouldn't you be going?"
"I got a ride today," (Y/n) smiled, sitting at the table. Her mom smirked.
"From who?"
"Kaito."
"...is that a boy?"
"Mom. Please."
Her mother smiled at her, then returned her attention back to the stove. She sighed. "You know I'm already skeptical about these kids who just decided on a whim to be your friend, and a boy is even worse. They could try anything!"
"But didn't I also decide to be their friends on a whim? It goes both ways, Mom."
Her mom didn't answer.
"Please, just trust me. Nobody's going to try anything, especially not Kaito." She grabbed reached over to grab a few pancakes and threw some toppings on them.
"You just met them yesterday."
"That doesn't mean anything."
"Sweetie..."
"Mom," (Y/n) mumbled, shoveling food into her mouth. "All I'm asking is that you trust me. You say I just met them; there's no trust or bond there yet. I say I just met them; no trust or bond has been broken yet. You're not even considering giving them a chance."
