CHAPTER 7: Carrot Stick
NOTCH'S POV;
I walk into the room, my head rolling the images of Scarlet; crouched down next to the horse, then people surrounding her as they pull something free of the dead horse. I see a smile light her face but sadness still etched in her eyes, after a while, I watch the three men walk away with a foal in there arms.
But yet Scarlet remains, stroking the head that lay in her lap. I get a few messages from the guys asking what was happening, but I didn't feel like answering. I'll probably get beaten the shit out of because i;m not answering the calls or texts but to be honest, I don't care; watching that scene unfold was a little depressing.
Sitting on my bike and scrolling through my phone as I wait to see what was happening; before I knew it Scarlet is back. I watch as she jumps the fence again with ease, I figure that she does it enough times to know what she is doing; her eyes connect with mine and I can't help but slide back slightly.
"What?" She asks confused.
"You're eyes, there like, really blue. I'm pretty sure they where hazel before" I explain, she rubs her eyes and laughs slightly, which confuses me even more.
"They change when I'm sad or angry, it's some weird thing about blood type or something, I got it from mum." I nod in understanding, still slightly creep-ed by the sudden change.
"So, how do you know the horse?" I look past her at the still un-moving animal; she seems to hesitate before shrugging and giving me a run down on her story.
"One night while I was out on the bike, I saw a man and his truck on the side of the road, I stopped next to him to see what was wrong being the god person I am" I scoff at that but she ignores it and carries on. "He had hit a stock pony that had gotten out of its paddock; turns out the horse was pregnant, the blow had somehow cause the foal to turn and at that moment was born. The mother died and the guy that hit them didn't want the foal so I took her here. And from that day, I practically raised her." She shrugged again, her eyes far away. As if she suddenly realized who she was talking to, the walls that had cracked under her weak state, where soon replaced; tapped up as if she never said a thing.
"Are you alright to head back now?" I ask, switching on my pride and joy; awaiting for her to jump on again.
"Thank you but I can get a ride back with a friend." I looked at her as if she where mad, I tried to argue but I swear, she's like a brick wall; so in the end I gave up and rode back alone.
"Wait. What's you're name egghead?" I glare at her for the nickname but push past it and give her my name.
"It's Notch"
"Not any more it's not, thanks again egghead." she pat's my cheek and starts walking away; I stop her before she disappears.
"Do you always name people like there you're dog?"
"I've always wanted a dog ,so yes I do!" She does a half ass-ed soldier salute before turning into the stable yard, before she's completely out of view; I give her the finger and to my luck, get a peace sign back.
I shake my head and chuckle, scanning the area she had gone into; my eyes suddenly land on a blonde with heels so high, Big Ben would have to look up in order to see her. Before i'm able to look away, she gives me a flirtatious wave and wink like she actually thought I was checking her out. My eyes drift to the right of her and land on a guy, who shoots razor blades at me with just his eyes. Crazy, I know. I squint my eyes and he gives a sly smirk as he sees my realization knock my face with a baseball bat.
'I know who you are, agent Notch' he mouths to me; I quickly cover my attire with a mask of confusion and quickly set off, back towards home and an awaited beating.
