Gone
How would you feel if someone who played an important role in your life left you so sudden that you couldn't accept it at all? That's what I felt 15 years ago.
My grandmother and my great-gramdmother took a great care of me since I was born. My parents? Well, after a month my mom gave birth to me, she went to Jakarta, working as usual alongside my dad and didn't really care about me but that didn't matter me a lot.My grandmother and great-grandmother were my family members who I really love the most. They were there everytime when I need them. When my skies were grey, they were there to cheer me up. When I was very ill, they were the ones who were there to heal me with those damn medicines. Overall, they were always there whenever I need them.
I still remember my first day of school. Once I saw both my grandmother and great-grandmother left me, those tears just flew out immediatly as I screamed for them. Whilst I'm screaming, they waved as they smiled at me. Then I felt a light thud on my shoulder, I faced her and she smiled as she wiped my tears, handing me a heart shaped candy. She asked me questions, but I didn't really understand them cause I only learned to speak mandarin at home. Time flies and finally a lady took my hand and my bag, leading me to the playground. I saw kids who were playing happily there while I just stood there, beside the lady. Then my gaze caught to my grandmother and great-greatmother who were buying foods at the other side of the school. I let go of the lady's hand and quickly rushed to them, ignoring a car who was gonna crash into me. All I knew was that I really need their hugs around my arms.
Years passed and I finally graduated kindergarten. That was when my parents returned home. By the time I saw them, I immediatly ran behind my great-grandmother's backs and held her hands real tight. My grandmother talked to them as she offered them to sit. The woman called after me, she knew my name and that made me somehow frightened. Then my great-grandmother explained everything to me. I was indeed shocked, I didn't knew that my parents exist till that day. They also told me that I'm going to have a brother. I was quite angry cause I knew that I had to share my grandmother and great-grandmother with someone. But I knew that they would always love me no matter what happen.
Holiday was almost over. I was going to move out with my parents, leaving my grandmother and great-grandmother there in that house alone. I couldn't bare with it. I couldn't hold those tears much longer. They always told me that strong girls don't cry. I tried, but I just can't. They hugged and gave a me a kiss on my forehead before I left with my parents. Even though I knew that we won't be far apart but still it really hurt me knowing that I would leave them. I promised them that I would come over and stay there every Saturday and my parents would come and fetch me every Sunday.
I did, I visted there every Saturdays and my parents would fetch me home every Sundays. Until one day, I realized that was the last day I saw with my great-grandmother. I didn't realized that she was getting older and older. On Sunday, my parents came to fetch me home as usual, I said my goodbye to my grandmother and great-grandmother. Once I arrived home, my mom's phone rang and tears were flowing down her cheeks as she knelt helplessly. I asked her what's wrong but she didn't answer. She whispered to my dad and in a blink they started the car, leaving me alone with the nanny who took care of me while my parents were working.
Few hours past, the night kissed the sky. I was waiting on the front door as the sound of the ticking click accompanied me. All of the sudden I heard my parents' car and I quickly ran to them. They were wearing black clothers, mom's eyes were red as rose, and I could see that both of my parents where feeling so helpless. They opened the back door of the car and my grandmother stepped out. She was wearing black dress as well. I knew that something was wrong. My grandmother hates black color! She never wore black clothes till this day. I rushed to hug her. I could see that she felt so empty, she was very sad. I gaze away and I couldn't see my great-granmother stepped down from the car. So I asked them, and they just stood there as their eyes were looking down. I faced my grandmother and her tears flew out. I wiped her tears and I asked another question again. She told me that my great-grandmother was sleeping and that she wouldn't be awake anymore. I was very confused at that time. I wanted to see my great-grandmother. So I ask them again. My grandmother cried even more. My mom hugged her and told me that I will see my great-grandmother tomorrow.
