Scarlett's P.O.V~

"Hurry Jade!" I yell back at my younger sister as we ran from the corrupted.
"Slow down!" She cried back before tripping on a risen piece of sidewalk.
"Scarlett! Help me!" She screamed and begged me to turn around. Her foot, wedged in between the cement pieces. I froze with fear as the corrupted got closer. I ran over to Jade and attempted to free her ankle from the ground.
"It's ok! We're going to be ok, alright?" I tried to reassure her as I struggled to pull her free.
"It's no use! Run while you can!" She advised me as the corrupted picked up speed.
"I'm not going to leave you! We already lost dad! Don't try and leave me too!" I screamed at her in my frustration and due to the stressful situation. By the time I got her free the corrupted were already over us. I hugged my sister for dear life and we braced ourselves.
"Ben! Over here!" I hear a man yell to someone else before hearing the sounds of the corrupted being hacked up and their flesh being punctured.
"Are you two girls alright?" A tall dark man asked before placing one of his hands on my head as he crouched down to look at us in the eyes. I only burst out in tears as I flung my arms around him. Terrified at the thought of what would've happened if he hadn't found us in the street in time.
"Thank you! Thank *hic* you!" I showed my gratitude by hugging him tightly and thanking him for saving our lives as me and my sister trembled in fear.
"Where are your parents?" The man asked us as he looked around and gave a signal to the other man to tell him that nobody else was here.
"Right there..." I stated as I pointed to the dead corrupted man on the ground. His body turning to black dust. The mans expression looked pained and saddened by my response.
"I'll take the both of you to my house. There, you can help me with the other kids and learn how to defend yourselves like everyone else does." The man stated before standing up and extending a hand towards us.
"We're gonna be like a family, because everyone there is like you two. That includes myself." He gives a warm smile as he talks about the others. I nod before taking his hand.
"Who are you?" I ask curiously.
"My name is Ben Claude, but you can call me Uncle Ben." He replies with a hearty chuckle.
"Ok." I mumbled shyly to Uncle Ben.
"I'm Scarlett and this is my younger twin sister Jade." I stated to the man named Ben. Following close behind, Uncle Ben met up with the other man.
"Who is he?" Jade asked suddenly from behind me.
"Oh him? This is just my old training buddy and king of the kingdom of eternal night. Taught him everything he knows!" Uncle Ben stated as he threw his arm around the dark haired man and laughed.
"If I remember correctly; I believe that I succeeded you in combat training and out ranked you." The other man bragged teasingly before giving a smirk in triumph.
"Still as bratty as ever I see." Uncle Ben said as he gave the king a look of questioning. Next thing I know, Uncle Ben was ruffling the young kings hair with both hands as the man tried to push him off.
"Hey! Watch the hair!" The blue eyed man exclaimed.
"Then you should respect your elders a bit more." Uncle Ben warned before stopping his assault.
"We should get a move on before night falls once more." Uncle Ben reminded the king as we proceed to the entrance of the demolished city. Me and my twin sister looked back one last time to see our fathers corrupted body turning into black ash and disappearing into the wind.
"Father." Jade sniffled as tears ran down her pale face. All I could do was hold her close to me and cry with her. Suddenly, strong arms embraced both of our small bodies.
"I'm sorry. There wasn't anything I could do for him; but, I promise to keep the both of you safe from any further harm." Uncle Ben vowed as he shed tears of sadness with us. I was over joyed that someone understood how we felt in that moment. I couldn't keep the tears from falling as they streamed down my face like a river. I cried as this kind man held both of us close.

As though we were something precious to him.
