Outside the walls

The next morning was Sakura's first expedition outside the walls. She was not only a squad leader, but also a Corporal. The thought still shocked her.
"I'm exhausted", she thought. "I wish I got more sleep."
After Levi came to visit her last night, she couldn't sleep. He was all she could think about. He's been all she could think about since the moment she laid eyes on him, but yesterday she couldn't even sleep. Her mind was racing with possibilities.
"Maybe he does love me"
"Am I overthinking this?"
"Did I even see him last night? Was it all a dream?"
Levi Ackerman; that man really is a mystery. Sakura had assumed that he was too bitter and cold to love anyone. But what he did last night changes everything. Not only did he treat her in such a nice way, but he also apologized for hurting her feelings.
"Stop it, Sakura. Focus. Today is your first expedition outside the walls. You can't just let some guy distract you.", she thought.
She strapped into her gear and headed to the mess hall for breakfast.
When she got to the mess hall, she wasn't greeted by the usual waves and smiles. Instead, she walked in to see sunken faces and eyes full of despair. Even Eren Jaeger and his friends, who were usually the ones cheering everyone up, looked even more down that everyone else.
"Must suck to be Eren right now", she thought.
The goal of today's expedition was to test out how much Eren can control his titan form.
Once outside the walls, all the cadets will form a huge circle around Eren, while the squad leaders and high-ranking soldiers will form a tighter one around him. Eren will then turn into a titan and follow orders issued from Hanji and Erwin. It was Sakura and Levi's job to stand the closest to Eren and to keep him in check if things got out of control.
Breakfast was finally over, and all the cadets were filing out of the mess hall and getting their horses warmed up for the demanding task ahead.
Sakura spotted Levi; he was stroking his horse's mane and he looked like he had something on his mind. He felt Sakura's gaze on him and snapped out of his trance. He looked up at Sakura and...
Was that...
A smile?
Sakura angrily walked over to Levi, her cheeks a hot red color. When she got to him, she said as low as she could, "Can you just make up your mind already? One second you act all cold and heartless, but the next you're the sweetest guy in the world. Stop confusing me and make up your mind already!"
"I'm confusing you?", said Levi hotly. "You're the one who's always blowing me off! And besides, you should be busy thinking about that mystery guy instead of about me!"
"Mystery guy?...", replied Sakura, confused. "What's that supposed to... Wait... you heard me talking to Erwin the other day?"
Levi suddenly went red.
"Levi, you were eavesdropping?!", asked Sakura.
"I-I... I didn't mean to... it just... happened...", he managed.
Sakura gave Levi a look of pure hate, and walked away.
"Sakura! Wait, please!", screamed Levi.
All eyes were on him as he ran after Sakura. He grabbed her by the arm to stop her, but she gave him another glare and snatched her arm away.
"Great", Levi thought. "Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse."
About an hour later, the gates opened. With a loud battle cry from Erwin, the horses and their riders thundered out of the gate. After traveling for a solid hour under the scorching sun, the soldiers finally reached their destination; the heart of the forest. The soldiers got into the scheduled formation around Eren, while Sakura and Levi each stood on opposing trees on either side of Eren.
As Eren got himself ready to turn into a titan, a bone chilling scream ruptured the silence.
"TITANS!"
"How many?", yelled Erwin.
"HUNDREDS! HUNDREDS OF THEM!"
"Abort the mission!", yelled Erwin. "Avoid battle as much as you can! Head back to the wall!"
Sakura looked over her shoulder to see what looked like an army of titans heading towards the forest.
As the Titans infiltrated the forest, all hell broke loose. Screams, followed by blood splatters filled the air.
Sakura zoomed through the branches using her 3DMG and killed as many titans as she could. One titan after the other fell to its knees as Sakura made her way to the other side of the forest. More than half of the soldiers had been devoured. Eren and his friends were safe. So was Hanji and Erwin.
...Levi...
Where was Levi?
Following orders from Erwin, the remaining soldiers fled back to the wall. There was no time to get the corpses. More titans were making their way to the forest. But if the soldiers left now, they wouldn't lose anymore men.
"Erwin!", yelled Sakura.
"Sakura.", said Erwin. "You were amazing out there. I knew you w-"
Sakura cut Erwin off, asking, "Where's Levi?"
Erwin looked at the ground. "I'm sorry Sakura",  he said. "One of my men said he saw him go down."
Without thinking, Sakura got on her horse and rushed back into the forest.
"SAKURA!", yelled Erwin.
But she didn't care. Levi can't be dead. He's not dead. She was sure of it. She could feel it.
When she was 5 minutes into the forest, she spotted a bloody figure, try to crawl to the other end of the forest.
"Levi?!", yelled Sakura.
The person looked up.
It was Levi.
His face was bloody and his leg was bent at an odd angle.
Sakura hopped off of her horse and rushed to Levi's side. She slowly carried him and placed him on her horse
"S-Sa-k-k-ura...", managed Levi.
"Ssshhh", she whispered, stroking his hair. "You"ll be okay. You'll be home soon."
Sakura then stroked her horse's face and said, "Hey buddy. I need you to take this idiot back to base. Can you do that for me?"
The loyal horse neighed in approval, turned around, and ran like lightning back to the wall.
"Guess I'm walking back", thought Sakura.
