May 2, 2018 (I realized I need a time stamp for future reference.)
Hola. 'Tis me, Mack, your friendly neighbourhood part-time writer. I am here, and I am alive. Unfortunately I have my exams back to back Monday to Friday next week, so while I've managed to catch a little downtime, I decided to finally get around to thanking you wonderful people properly.
As you may know by now, March and April were pretty exciting months for me Wattpad-wise. Many milestones have been hit that this little child never saw coming, many of which I am still currently processing. Let's see a timeline, shall we?
March 9, 2018 - We broke down the top 200 barrier, trending at #198. Before then, the highest we'd ever gotten on the Teen Fiction list was #252, and that was a pleasant surprise in and of itself. Y'all can imagine how happy I was.
April 9, 2018 - Exactly a month later, and right when depression started creeping back up on me, God was like nah, bruh, and this book, my little baby, one of my most prized possessions, achieved the seemingly unattainable goal of fifty thousand reads. I remember dropping that as one of my goals for the next year in my Happy New Year author's note, and you guys made it happen literally in the space of less than four months. Needless to say, I was shook. I still am, but now we're at 59K and I'm already at a loss as to what to do with myself. Thank you so much for loving my story.
The rest of April - We hit, then broke the top 150, then top 120 barrier in the space of a matter of days. Y'ALL. That is all. I told my mom a couple days ago that we hit #117 and she was so taken aback and it felt really good to have this kind of support for something that started out as random scribbles in my third form English notebook. I'm beyond grateful.
Today, May 2 - I woke up to a couple notifications of people adding the novel to their reading lists (y'all are the MVPs), and WAIT FOR IT- #114. In Teen Fiction. Out of all the incredible stories on Wattpad.
Guys, I'm really happy, and I cannot thank you guys enough for all of you who have been there from the very start, and those who hopped on for the ride. You guys have given life to an overactive imagination, been there for me when my mind wanted to cave in on me, have been so incredibly patient.
Most importantly, you gave voice to a young black girl from a tiny island in the Caribbean on a website where it's so easy to get lost by the wayside. You will never know how much that means to me, especially when I don't have many examples of people like me making it big on Wattpad. Thank you.
Since we're getting personal, there are a couple people I want to single out:
1. joymoment. Y'all already know how grateful I am to this incredible woman who has supported me through some of the hardest periods of writing this novel, but she my girl, so Imma hype her. Joy, thank you for everything. The comments that made me laugh and think, the messages you sent checking up on me, the encouraging words that motivated me to keep going, all your writing advice, everything. I admire you more than you know.
2. pa_lukas. PAIGEYYYYYYY my love. Thank you for being one of my best friends on Wattpad. I'm honestly so glad I met you, because no one keeps me as entertained on this website as you do. Thanks for loving my characters, never being afraid to put in your two cents, and notification spamming me whenever you get the chance. It makes my day. Thanks for being an awesome friend.
3. booksurule for checking up on me when I least expected it and when I needed it most. Small gestures mean a lot. Thanks.
4. ElayneofAndor and avidbookworm09 for your hilarious comments, support and banter. You're a pleasure to write for.
5. Ashepticeye, kyleenoelle9 and all the rest of vote spammers. You're appreciated.
6. THE GHOST READERS. I see you, and I love you. Thank you. (But comment, guys, it's a safe space :-D)
7. My parents (y'all all weird, but still, thank for your support. Thanks Mum, for supporting my pursuit of my passion and letting me run all my controversial ideas by you.)
8. My extra cousin NicoleCumberbatch0 for being kind enough to make an entire Wattpad account just to read my story. Of course, she stressing me now about when I'm going to update. Yuh still appreciated though. Smh.
I think that sums it up for now. There are a hundred more people I wish I could thank, but I can't, so just know that I appreciate everything all of you have done for me and this story.
On that note, here's something I can do for you guys:
Remember the Q & A I asked about last chapter? Yeah. Are you up for it? You can ask anything: how I came up with the story, the journey to 50K, about your favourite characters (hey, let's do character interviews!), my favourite books on Wattpad, all that good stuff!
Drop your questions in the comments, and hopefully I can compile them into a Q & A and upload it soon! Love ya!
I'm off to study, I'll see you guys in another week or so! Also, I'm traveling as well, so once I have a stable Internet connection, I'll try to upload more regularly. I know many of you have questions, and the climax of the story is quickly approaching, so I won't keep you waiting forever :-)
Mack :-)
