7.Whispering silence

Edward

I woke up with a searing pain in my head. I tried to sit up but felt too weak to complete the action.

'Woah. Easy there. Seems like you're finally up' said a nurse propping pillows behind me.

'Thank you' I said and looked around. I was in the campus infirmary. The events of probably what was now the previous day were coming back to me. The strange symbols. Me and Carter looking at them.

I looked around my surroundings. I never actually came to the infirmary for the need never arose. Suddenly I saw someone on the bed beside me, a girl to be exact. And she was sleeping.

The nurse who was taking care of us caught me looking at her and said 'The poor girl fainted in the hallway today. Probably stressed out or something. Her brother was scared out of his wits when he bought her here...'

But I was barely listening to her. All I could see was the girl. And it wasn't just any girl. It was the girl I dashed into the other day. Julie.

The nurse suddenly puts a tray in my lap. A bowl soup on it. 'Eat up you'll need your strength'. Saying that she walked away probably to go sit down for a while.

I turned towards Julie and looked at her. It was odd seeing her totally still other than the Rhythmic rise and fall of her chest. Her dark brown hair in a braid and her specs on the bedside table. A troubled look on her face. She was probably having a bad dream.

I slowly tried to finish eating without bending and then tried to lie down. The pain in my head was slowly dissipating but my back for some reason still felt sore.

Just then someone shouted 'Ouch!' and I jumped. I turned to see that Julie had woken up.

She looked disoriented, confused and by the looks of it, her back hurt. What a coincidence.

I plucked up all the courage I had and said 'Glad you're up it was starting to get lonely here'.

She turned to the side and though she looked disoriented and confused I could see a spark of recognition in her eyes 'Edward' she said.

'Hey Julie' I said grinning at her 'We should really stop meeting like this'. I said gesturing to our surroundings.

She still seemed to be confused. 'Where am I?' she said and then looked around and seemed to have realized that and looked over at me sheepishly.

'Yeah the nurse said you fainted in the hallway'

Her eyes widened and she said 'was I burning when I was brought in?'

'What?' I said my eyes wide.

Burning?

'I mean before I fainted something strange happened...' She was saying and then stopped herself and said 'Never mind it seems crazy now'

Something strange?
