Julie
Have you ever felt like you wanted to let sparks fly from your hands?
Well, that's exactly what I wanted to do during class. I was slightly aware of the fact that I was in the middle of a french grammar session but it was a complete blur.
'Julie! Hello? Earth to Julie!' hissed my friend Becca.
'Huh? Oh! Sorry, Becs! I wasn't listening' I said as I felt my face fluster. Me getting lost in my thoughts was something pretty normal.
But I just couldn't help it. Lately, I seem to have been getting distracted a lot.
Becca looked at me worriedly 'Jules is something wrong? You've honestly not been yourself lately. she said with a frown.
'It's ok I'm alright' I said trying to get her to stop worrying.
'You know you can tell me right? If it's about that bully Andy then I can handle this....'
'No! No, it's not about Andy. It's nothing! I was just lost in my thoughts. If something happens, believe me, you'll be the first person to know' I said giving her one of my most faithful expressions.
'I better be or that day shall be your last' she said with a serious expression just as the bell rang. We grabbed our stuff and walked out of the classroom.
We walked through the familiar white-walled corridors of St.Lenons high school.
The building was a manor of one of the dukes who settled in London back in the day. The wooden flooring was then changed to marble when the school's authorities got hold of the estate.
With the huge gardens and carefully sculpted statues near the fountain, you could feel as if you were living in a different era.
'Hey, Julie! Becca! Wait up!' said a voice that belonged to a tall blond. Lucy ran to catch up with us. We waved back to her 'Hey Luce! how far has your sculpture come? I heard it's amazing!' Becca said and Luce with her face lighting up said 'It's simply amazing! It's my best one yet! So... since classes are done and our winter break has finally begun what are we up to next?' she asked.
Lucy was a foreign exchange student from New York and was dying to explore London.
Becs and I usually spent the holidays over at each other's places. And since we lived close by we could always take our bikes for a ride through the streets near the river. In short, we had no idea where to take Luce.
'we're going to the cafe to meet Daniel. He said he had something important to tell me.' Daniel is my older brother he usually hung out with us in the cafe. It was our meeting point.
Once we got our things from our locker and left the premises we went to the cafe two blocks away, That was where we would be meeting my brother.
The cafe was a small but lovely place. We ordered tea and scones while we waited for Daniel. Luce was telling us about her sculpture when he entered the cafe. I waved at him towards our table. He saw me but my hand lowered once I saw his worried face. He looked like he had seen something terrifying.
He came and slowly sat down with us. Becs and Luce fell silent seeing him. 'Dan? What happened? You look like you've seen a ghost
'Jules something is wrong with me...Strange things have started to happen...... it's hard to explain. You might even think I'm crazy! But believe me, Jules, I'm not lying' he said looking around as if to see if someone was spying on us.
To be honest I was a bit scared. Dan was one of the most composed people I've ever known in my life. If he was scared it must have been something Terrible.
I put a hand on his shoulder and said 'Hey it's alright. I'm right here. Tell me, What's wrong?'
He hesitated. I could see an ocean of emotions in his eyes like he was debating whether he should say something or not. After a few moments, he signed and said 'There's no point lying I need to talk this out...Jules strange things have been happening. It's like everything around me has some sort of power! Li...Like I have some sort of power within me to move them......' He lifted his hand and I saw blue sparks flying from finger to finger.
I looked over at Becs and Lucy but they seem to be seeing nothing because Becs said 'Your hands are shaking?'
I looked back at Dan and realized one thing,
Only we both could see the sparks.
I look him in the eye. Even he seemed to have realized this because his eyes were wide with fear. This was scary. No not scary it's horrifying!
'Jules what should I do? Maybe we should go to uncle Geo? Maybe he could...
But I didn't hear the rest of what he said as I felt my vision go blank. I tried to stand up but realized that was a bad move The last thing I saw while falling into darkness was Daniel catching hold of me as Luce and Becca screamed...
