I chewed on a fry outside on the bench, as I waited for Aidan to get out of basketball practice. He had said that practice would end early for him today and he wanted us to spend the afternoon together. So, I played on my cell phone and ate the remnants of my lunch outside by the parking lot. My eyes flickered up at the sight of the cheerleaders walking out from the field. I rolled my eyes almost automatically at the sight of Olivia, gripping her gym bag in her hand. Her ponytail bouncing as she made her way towards her convertible. I still couldn’t believe she was dating Jude. It just didn’t make any sense to me.

“Hey,” a voice said from behind me. I turned quickly, my eyes finding Jude’s. He plopped down beside me on the bench, crossing his legs.

“Hi,” I said as he dug his hands into my bag of fries, helping himself.

“What are you doing sitting on a bench by yourself?” Jude asked glancing around. “I mean Aidan isn’t around, is he?”

“He’s in practice,” I replied. “I’m waiting for him to get out. What about you? What are you doing here? I just saw you’re uh girlfriend over at her car.”

“I bet you did,” Jude said rolling his eyes. “Unlike you and Aidan, we have separate lives. I don’t spend every waking moment with her.”

“Aidan and I love each other,” I retorted. “People who love each other do that.”

“Yuck,” Jude grinned at me jokingly. “You just had to bring the L-word into it. But anyways, Olivia’s birthday is this weekend and I want you and Aidan to come.”

“Aidan and I have plans already,” I said glancing off into the field. Jude laughed, scoffing at me.

“I should have known,” he chuckled turning towards me. “I’m sure you can move them. ”

I nearly choked on my French fries when he said that. Move them? Yeah right. Me and Aidan with him and Olivia – He had to be joking. I despise Olivia. I would never subject myself to such torture. I hated her and the last thing I wanted to do was celebrate her birthday.

“I don’t care for Olivia,” I replied casually.

“And I don’t care much for Aidan,” Jude shrugged. “So, what do you say?”

“That’s why this is a terrible idea, Jude,” I said my eyes wide at the idea.

“Come on, it’ll be fun,” he said giving me a devious smirk. “I promise I’ll be on my best behavior around Aidan. It is my girlfriend’s birthday after all.”

I sighed – him on his best behavior? That was a joke. I had a bad feeling about this. Before I could politely decline, Aidan walked out of the gym with a group of his basketball buds. Jude took that as his cue to leave.

“I’ll take your silence as a yes,” Jude smirked walking off towards the parking lot. I rolled my eyes. I don’t know why Jude wanted us at this party so bad. It would just be a bunch of cheerleaders and basketball players. I didn’t exactly fit in with that crowd.

“Hey,” Aidan said as soon as he pulled into my house. “You’ve been quiet the whole ride home. I saw you talking to Jude. Did he say something?”

“No,” I said shaking my head. “He just was inviting us to Olivia’s birthday party this weekend.”

“Oh yeah I heard about that,” Aidan nodded. “A ton of guys from the team are going. I was thinking about going.”

Of course he was. “I don’t want to go. But you can go. I don’t really care for Olivia and I’d feel uncomfortable.”

“But if you’re not going then I’m not going, “he said kissing me on the cheek.
