CHAPTER TWO:

EARTH

'heliophilia; the desire to stay in the sun'

ELIZABETH DIDN'T KNOW what she was expecting, perhaps a wasteland, air that would make you choke and trees burnt to ashes. Instead there was an endless jungle, lush foliage and beautiful flora, a true sight to envy. She spends the first few minutes on earth laying on the grass and staring at the almost clear sky. With an overwhelming sense of longing, if only my parents were here with me.

'Liz, come celebrate with us!' Monty calls out to her, a smile finds a way to her face and she pushes the thoughts of home away walking towards them. They find themselves quickly conversing about everything they had missed concerning each other, but from what she has heard they're still the same childhood friends, her loveable dorks.

'how's Jane and Sam?' Monty asks, he smiles at the thought of her parents, but a frown falls at the mention of her mother and guilt tightens her heart.

'Dad's okay, mom actually passed away a couple of years ago,' Monty and Jasper immediately stop walking and she can tell they feel horrible- which they shouldn't.

'We're so sorry.' Jasper finally says for the both of them, Elizabeth forces a smile, 'Don't be it's not your fault.' the words come out automatically, they're empty and meaningless in sharp contrast to Jasper and Monty's. She doesn't understand why people apologize for a loss that's not their fault, but she reminds herself that's what she would do too. What else could you say instead?

Jasper lightens the mood as usual, 'Take notes Green, this is how you get the girl.' He walks up to Wells and the blonde girl who are huddling over a map- Elizabeth hopes to know her name by the end of today. She watches amused as he says, 'Cool a map, you have a bar in this town? I'll buy you a beer.'

Apparently Wells doesn't react to this as indifferently as they thought, 'You mind,' he says roughly grabbing a hold of Jasper, but before she could say anything a group of boys walk towards him. 'Hey, hands off of him, he's with us.' Once again she resists the urge to roll her eyes at the group, there's the designated asshole.

'Relax. We're just trying to figure out where we are.' Wells defends, Bellamy joins the conversation with Octavia by his side. 'We're on the ground. That not good enough for you?' he replies authoritatively, Elizabeth genuinely felt bad for Wells. She can almost feel his discomfort as he says, 'We need to find Mount Weather. You heard my father's message. That has to be our first priority.' and he raises a fair point. Mount Weather contained all the supplies they needed and with a quick glance at the blonde girls map, it looked like a fair distance away.

'Screw your father. What, you think you're in charge here, you and your little Princess?' Elizabeth decides to call the blonde girl princess instead and from the looks of it, princess is offended by her new name.

'Do you think we care who's in charge? We need to get to Mount Weather not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this'll be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies? We're looking at a twenty-mile trek, okay? So if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave now.' You had to hand it to her, she was able to argue her point across so well and she seemed like a natural leader, but Bellamy Blake disagreed.

'I got a better idea. You two go, find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change.' All the delinquents made shouts of approval and this time Elizabeth doesn't hold back her eye roll.
