"Mommy run, Daddy monsters coming" four year old me squealed running across the grass. My dad quick on my heels.
My mom laughed as he caught me throwing me in the air with his arms tight around me, tickling my sides. We all laughed. We were all happy."Get out" my mom screamed, five year old me unsure of what to do. How to stop mommy and daddy screaming in each others faces and at each other's throats.
I threw my hands over my ears as they got louder, I sat at the top of the stairs tears streaming down my cheeks.
This is all that mans fault.I watched from the front door step, my teddy hung loosely from my hand. I watched as daddy packed all his things into the van. Daddy was leaving. He'll be back. I know it. He loves me and mommy. He tells us all the time.
He glanced over at me, his eyes scanning our once happy family home. He walked over crouching infront of me placing both his hands on either sides of my cheek.
"I'll be back bella, don't you worry. I promise"
Tears welled up in my eyes as I nodded furiously at him.Six year old me stood bitterly behind my mom who was placing her tiara on her head, Grammy crying twirling her around hugging her tight. Through glossy eyes she turned to look at me.
"Are you not happy for your mam, Lori, love?" Her thick Irish accent standing out.
I nodded my head, sulkily, did they not know daddy was coming back home soon?"You'll love her kiddo trust me"
I don't want to like her daddy, she's not mommy. He had to come home to us soon and take us away from smelly Steve.
"Look there she is, I wonder what's that she's got" he said to me doing that wiggly eyebrow dance. I giggled gripping his hand harder as we approached her."Hello Lori, I'm Tati. I love your dress it's the colour of the sea" she exclaimed, eight year old me loved this compliment it made me feel like a mermaid and her name was close to one of my bears.
She's ok. She'll do till daddy comes home.
Ten year old me, smiled as Tati placed a small flower crown onto my head it was embedded in gold and jewels.
She looked beautiful in a long princess dress. Her veil looked like those ones in movies that me and mommy watched.
I got ready to walk ahead of her throwing handfuls of petals and glittering gems down the aisle.
I stood by Tati as they exchanged rings and realisation dawned on me.Daddy was never coming home.
