Mateo's eyes focused unblinkingly as he leaned forward slightly, taking in the sacred eyes that were placed in Leonan's head. He hadn't expected the overall persona of the king to be so.. mesmerizing? Clearing his throat he leaned back before pressing his callused hands down onto his knees to stand up.
"I had a whole long speech prepared," he quietly strode to the end of the bed, his eyes focusing out into the room, scanning over the lavish dressers and antique desks. Everything in the room shouted luxury, in a soft voice he began, "but I feel there's no need." He turned his face from the life of extravagance and faced back towards the bed.
"I could bore and dazzle you with my speech, trying to intimidate you. However, I feel that won't be the most productive in this sense since we're already here." Lightly grazing his hand over the bed post, the hard wood under hand he stood an arms length away from it and made eye contact even when his eyes closed.
"Leonan, king of this land, I, Lord Mateo Dragonair have come to overthrow you." He lifted his hands as a wait, raising an eyebrow. "We don't seek to cause you or your people any harm, we wish to unify our two nations." Stepping forward he sat back down in the chair, "Even from all the way in the South of your land, we have heard the news of your families passing and your current state, how the people have a sickly weak king running them. The word has probably spread to the other nations of the world as well, and there will be an amount who will seek to cause you harm." He leaned forward on his knees, expressing with his hands,
"You see my nation is still very much religious, they believe without you humanity will be lost even though you are from a different kingdom. Your father was not the best of men to work with." He tried a small smile to ease how tense he felt in this situation. "That is why I am here, to speak with you, I believe in my leadership abilities. I do not know whether my name with the reputation behind it has reached outside of my borders, but I have a strong bond with my men and my people, we trust one another. We wish to create a nation from the two of ours to be stronger together." He eased a little as he neared the end of his explanation, watching the other man's expression carefully, "My people believe in your religious rights, but they trust my leadership to be able to rule them. I've come to claim our lands joined with you as the highest second in command. Being by my side to help guide us and show the people that humanity stays strong."Leaning back in his chair he added, "I have all my men to help protect the joined nations, we are strong in Navy as well, your people will have access to the larger ports of my country as 2/3 of our borders are water." This was going to happen, he just wanted Leonan to be more for it than against, a small unknown tinge of guilt was under but was not noticed as his body and muscles were tightened in tension.
