The next morning I woke up and all I felt was cold darkness. It felt like I was being swallowed in it. I laid in the darkness and listened for a moment. It was pouring outside. I grabbed my phone and looked at the time.
It was 6 in the morning.
Bella was already out on her morning jog and wouldn't be home for another half an hour.
I looked out the window, the only one that actually had part of the curtain missing, and watched the sky light up in a marvelous blue and green. Bella didn't care about how badly it was raining, or how bad the weather got, she would always go on an hour run. I threw my phone on the floor and turned towards the wall before falling asleep again. The next think I know, I feel someones arms around me and their lips against my neck.
"Mmm, Bella, stop it," I said, my voice weary.
"Good morning Beautiful."
"Morning, Bella."
"You willing to go dress shopping today? Prom's in three weeks."
"Yeah, I just think I should shower first."
"Alright. We'll leave in like a half hour?"
"Gimme an hour. I need to eat too."
"Are you really hungry?"
"I'll grab an apple but you know I can't stand around for long periods of time."
We laughed a little before I got up and into the shower. I don't use the tank in the shower normally, but on bad days, when the weather really bad, I need it. Today was one of those days. I hated these day. I finished showering after almost an hour and grabbed an apple before meeting Bella in the car. I bit into my apple and looked at Bella with apple juice running down my chin. I giggled and she started laughing.
"What," I asked wiping my chin with my sleeve.
"Nothin'," she said still laughing as she pulled out of the drive way.
I took another bite of my apple before talking again.
"I was thinking maybe you could wear the dress and I'd wear a tux."
"Really?"
"I say fuck the school."
"Cass and Ellie are gonna try and get people to vote us as the queens of prom."
"Aw so sweet of them."
I giggled a little and finished up my apple right as we pulled into a tux and dress shop parking lot.
"You ready," Bella asked me.
"As ever. I was thinking, a white tux with what ever color your dress is for my vest and bow tie?"
"Omg adorable!"
I laughed a little and got out of the car. I took a deep breath and walked into the shop with Bella. I walked around and watched her try on some dresses before we decided to take a break. We sat and looked at the white tuxes.
"It's gonna need to be altered."
"I don't think so."
"Bella, I'm not the same size as a man."
"Try it on please?"
I took a deep breath and when over to the man behind the counter.
"What size is that white tux?"
"Mens small, looking for your boyfriend."
"I'm a lesbian, it's for me. I'd like to try it on."
"I'll bring it down and meet you at the dressing room."
He walked away as I did but I went back to Bella.
"I hate you."
"Love you too."
I couldn't help but smile at her as we walked back to the dressing room. I had to take off my nose thing and slip on a tank top I brought and put the tux on over it.
"Bella it's too baggy. I need like a three-x small."
"Show me."
"No, its too embarassing."
"Alright, you don't have to. We'll bring it to my moms friend, she's welcoming to all orientations, and she'll taylor it."
"Really?"
"Yes. Now, change and we'll find the colors you need for under that."
I smiled and changed back into my clothes and put my oxygen nubs back in. I put the tux back on the hanger and told the man we'll take it. He brought it up to the front while Bella and I looked for her dress. She was dead set on finding a red dress of which had some kind of sparkle or gems fading from the top to the high low smooth red fabric with a little bit of black lace covering it. She was praying that she would finally find her dream dress. And one that day, she did.
