Chapter 1:

They've always made fun of me. Just for being a sidekick. They make fun of all the sidekicks. All the heroes do. Even my parents are disappointed in me.

Just because I'm a sidekick.

There are four types of people in this world:

1: villains

2: heroes

3: sidekicks

4: mortals

The villains are pretty self explanatory. Mortals are just humans and are just your average Jo type of person.

The heroes are pretty much the popular people in high school. They have awesome powers and can control them pretty well.

And then there's the sidekicks. I fall under this name. Because I have a secret that no one knows. Not even my parents.

I don't have any powers.

Yup you heard me. I'm supposed to be a hero like my parents, but I'm just a simple old sidekick.

Almost a mere mortal.

High school isn't so great. Everyone thinks I'm supposed to be the amazing hero that will save everyone just because of my parents.

My parents are one of the greatest hero couples on earth. My mom, Beatrice, or The Hurricane, has super speed, can control wind, and fly. Hence the name 'The Hurricane'. My father, David, or Rays, can control the sun, can fly, and has super strength. And together they're called 'The Weather Masters'. If you have complete control over the weather, that's pretty cool right? Wrong. I don't think it's amazing at all. Honestly, I don't get why powers are so important.

I hate high school because I get bullied.

You have no idea how many times I've been frozen, burned, dropped from mid air, and have had people get all up in my mind. It's horrible. Probably because the number of sidekicks is decreasing rapidly. Probably because anytime someone calls you a hero for saving someone or something, you're instantly a hero.

No one has ever called me a hero before. Mostly because I'm pretty much useless. At least that's what everyone calls me, Useless.

Surprisingly my real name is Autumn. Autumn Rose Jacobs. Nowhere near Useless.

Even my parents call me Useless. Only my teachers call me Autumn. But even I caught them a couple of times almost saying it.

Right now I'm in school, looking out the window, while everyone else is learning about old heroes. Something like that.

The bell rings, dismissing us, and I grab my books. I stand up and quickly dodge a fireball that is thrown at me. I don't even have to look at the culprit. All I know is that it's Bryce. He's the big hothead. He would take the title of popular jock guy in our school. Prom king of course. On the football team too.

"Hey Useless! Watch your head!" Bryce shouted at me. I didn't even glance towards him as I exited the classroom and walked towards my locker. I open it and shriek. Bugs start to pour out. It was most likely Zoe did this. She's the one who can control bugs or something. She's one of the preppy cheerleader girls.

I groan and put my homework into my backpack. I slung it around my shoulder and closed my locker to find Stretch standing there with a grin on his face. He grabbed my glasses and stretched his arm up so I couldn't reach them. He was also on the football team, and had the ability to stretch his body into any form. His real name is Timothy, but most people call him Stretch.
