The next day I got up at 9 and was in a 'lazy song' kind of mood. I decided to stay in my pjs which consisted of a bright yellow spongebob pants and a red Elmo tshirt. I got myself a bowl of honey nut cheerios, my favorite cereal and poured some milk. I went to my mom's room to make sure that I didn't have anything I had to do. "We don't have plans for today right?" She nodded "Yep, so you are free to do whatever. Do you have plans with Dalton?" She asked winking at me. I rolled my eyes. "No, I think I'm just gonna chill in my room." She looked like she was ready to go somewhere. "Are you heading out?" She picked up her purse and took out her keys. "I'm actually meeting that nice man, Rick, who I told you about before. We are having brunch at The Rigden Hotel." It took awhile for me to get used to the idea of my mom dating but if she was happy so was I. "Ooh, fancy, have fun! And you look great mom." She thanked me and hugged me goodbye. It was so nice to be close to my mother again.
A couple hours later I heard the doorbell ring. Apparently I had fallen asleep on my beanbag while reading a magazine all about celebrity gossip. It wasn't really my thing but I got bored. I sprung up from the beanbag and looked at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was frizzy and I looked kind of sloppy. The doorbell kept ringing so I ignored my appearance and ran to the door. "What?!" I shouted as I opened it. I wasn't expecting to see Dalton. "It's great to see you too." He said sarcastically. "I'm sorry, it's just I fell asleep and the ringing was a little annoying." He chuckled. "You're probably the only girl I know who can take a nap right after waking up." I smiled because it was probably true.
"Well I'm sorry for interrupting your sleep time but I was wondering if you wanted to come to the beach with me." He held his hand up as a sign for me to hold my comments. "Now I know you won't want to surf but I thought maybe you could watch me and keep me company. Plus my mom won't let me go without another person in case something happens. "Alright, let me change. Unless you don't mind if I wear my pjs." "You can stay in that if you want, you look cute when you're lazy." I blushed and went to my room to change. I put on my new black and purple striped tankini. Then I grabbed some basketball shorts and a Bon Jovi tshirt that said 'Livin on a Prayer' in gold lettering. "Nice shirt." Dalton said when I walked into the living room. I grabbed a brown leather over the shoulder bag and stuffed my phone, a towel, my sunglasses and sunscreen into it. "To the beach!" I yelled.
It was a really good day to spend at the beach. The sun was blazing but it wasn't too hot and the waves were just the right height. I watched as Dalton grabbed his black board and ran into the clear blue, salty water. He had on green and blue board shorts and I couldn't help but notice how muscular he was. I noticed how patient he had to be to get the right wave at the correct time. It was so cool watching him glide through the water.
Then came a huge wave, which I would not have taken. But Dalton decided to ride it. He got up for a few seconds. All of a sudden he flew backwards and got got sucked up in the water. I waited as 30 seconds passed. And then I knew what I had to do. I ripped off my shorts and shirt and sprinted into the water. "Dalton!!!" I screamed. A million negative thoughts ran through my brain as I dived under and searched for him. 'Please, God don't let me lose another person. I need him. He's my best friend.' I prayed. I saw a flash of blond hair and swam towards it. I grabbed his helpless body and dragged him to the shore. I knew I had to give him CPR. It was something that I hoped I would never have to use. I listened for a pulse which didnt exist. I did chest compressions and breaths over and over. Finally he coughed up water. It was disgusting but it filled me with joy. "Dalton!" I exclaimed with happiness. "Lilly, thank you so much. You saved my life. You don't know how proud I am of you. I know how hard it was for you to get back in the water." I nodded and hot salty tears spilled down my cheeks. If I was around anyone else I would have been embarrassed but not with Dalton. He knew my reasons and was understanding. "I thought I was going to lose you. I couldn't live without your friendship." He hugged me tightly and rubbed my back. I got up and put my hand out for him to grab. "Are you sure you're ok?" He nodded and took my hand. Then he fell back down. "Scratch that, Im pretty sure I broke my ankle." I was sad but I knew it could have been much worse. I got Dalton's phone and called his mom. "Mrs. Rapattoni, this is Lilly. Dalton had a surfing accident. Thankfully he only hurt his ankle." She sounded concerned. "Oh no. Can he get up." I shook my head even though she couldn't see me. "No, would you mind coming to take him to the hospital?" "Not at all, I'll be there ten."
