I hated a lot of things at the momment: I hated having summer vacation plans ruined by a surprise field trip. I hated being stuck in the car for so long. I hated my parents' ability to dodge any questions concerning my real father. I hated the man for getting me into stupid summer camp. Oh I specially hate the stupid snake that crashed the car! Artur and I always knew not everybody saw monsters, but nobody ever bothered to tell us that they were also intangible or whatever. While Artur just gave Talos a weird look and called 911 I went back to the car and checked mom and dad.Miraculously, they only had a few bruises. I might not be a doctor, but if getting in fights taught me anything, was how to tell what kind of damaged was inflicted and why my ribs hurt. To my distaste, I was as effective lifting them as I was fighting two headed snakes. Yep, that bad. So I just reclined mom's seat and put a pillow behind each of their heads. Not the most effective solution but hey, as Artur loves to remind me, I'm 10! Speaking of my older brother, he was coming down the slope, careful not to trip. Talos by his side, the German shepherd seemingly unfazed by the events we just went through despite fighting alongside us. How did his fur remain clean enough to glint in the sunlight after that fight was beyond me.
"There's an ambulance coming our way, we should probably hide our weapons, not sure how to explain a modern American family traveling with several," Artur muttered, checking on our parents' condition as if I hadn't done that already. He then checked the glove compartment to grab the gun's holster. I raised a brow, I knew that there wasn't much out there that bothered him, or at least that he allowed to show. But he did just shoot down a giant acid spitting two headed snake who talked. Nevertheless, I helped him store away the weapons into his trunks, that somehow remained whole despite the crash. Together, we dragged it with us to the top of the slope and sat by the road waiting for the ambulance.
"How did you know the gun would work?" I finally asked as Talos sat besides him, tongue lolling out as he looked at the lake where the snake had emerged. Judging the canine smile, he was more than eager to go for a swim. Artur shrugged, taking a look at the trunk carrying our weapons. Having them zipped up left us vulnerable and we both disliked it.
"Call it a hunch, but... Dad said yesterday that the bullets he brought with him were a gift from your father, maybe that has something to do with it?" Artur offered, he couldn't sit still though. Soon enough he was pacing on the edge of the street. It always bugged me his constant need for movement, I might not be able to read a neon sign or even read a book in a bad day, but at least I could sit still. Soon, the siren of the ambulance caught our attention as the red and white van appeared in the distance. Artur began to wave while I adjusted the trunk, couldn't let them see what was inside. Seeing our sudden movements, Talos began to bark at the approaching vehicle. Finally the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, the siren silencing.
"Is this where the car crash ocurred?" A wrinkled woman questioned as she left the driver's seat. Three more ladies bordering their 50s emerged from the vehicle. Weird, why weren't they carrying any equipment? Artur nodded, gesturing to the slope where the car had rolled down through, the craters and gashes left by the car evident against the pure green grass. One of the woman eyed the trunk like a raptor glaring upon a rat, I pulled it a little closer to me. Talos had yet to stop growling, even though Artur whistled for him to stop. The woman looked upon the slope, squinting to make out the car close to the tree line.
"Alright girls, a grown man and woman with minimal injuries and two missing teenagers, how does that sound?" The woman asked, ignoring our presence and focusing on her coworkers. Artur was focused on making Talos stop barking and with ADHD, I doubted he even processed what the woman just said. My hand moved on it's own, starting to unzip the trunk. The women then smiled with their sickly yellow teeth. Now I knew something was fishy, what kind of 911 worker didn't maintain hygiene? My hand slipped in the trunk, grasping hold of my kusarigama.
