Chapter One
Danny's POV
I fixed my hair with some hairspray and tightened my tie. I stared at the scrawny, red headed 19 year old in the mirror and doused myself in more hairspray. I then shook my head and fixed my eyeliner wings and stood back to get a better view of my reflection. I didn't think I was beautiful but I didn't hate my appearance. This was an ability so many people failed to have.
I checked the time. One hour until the concert and Quinn was taking her sweet time. We were going to see Masketta Fall who were an Australian local band from Melbourne and were slowly making it big. It was the first time I had seen them at a proper concert except for little gigs they would play or meet and greets they would do. The theme for the concert was Prom and I swore up and down I would wear a suit so, here I am.
Quinn came in wearing a dress that looked too casual to be formal but still suited her. We linked arms and walked out of my apartment and down the street towards the venue.
"You look like a boy," she pointed out whilst fixing my glasses. As a best friend I didn't know whether she was being hurtful or joking around so I smiled and we continued down the street where I could see the queue slowly growing. It would take us forever to get in let alone find a good place to stand.
"Don't worry. Remember, they know us," Quinn pointed out. We had been to many meet and greets before hand and they had performed at our school so they pretty much knew us. We walked straight pass the line and right to the front where the security ushered us in quickly before the plastic bitches wearing cocktail dresses at the front could notice. I'm pretty sure the event said formal.
We looked around inside and Quinn dragged me towards the stage where they were getting ready for the first support act to come on. From what I could read from the kick drum on the stage they were called Call The Shots. Quinn eagerly waved to the lead singer who had bleach blond hair and the strangest array of tattoos going up his arms. I think I saw a pokeball.
I'd seen this band before and I couldn't remember his name was it James? John?....Oh, it was Josh. He walked off the stage and came over to say hello.
"Hey Quinn, hey...Danny?" He said trailing off a bit to see if he could remember my name. I smiled and nodded and he did a little happy dance.
"Yes! I'm usually terrible with names but I remembered someone's! I love the suit," he said, smiling.
"Thanks. When do you guys go on?" I asked. He checked his phone which illuminated the dark hall slightly.
"Uh like, 10 minutes so I got to go, I'll talk to you girls after set you should go and sign up for the door prize!" He said giving us a hug but he ran off before I could even ask what the door prize was. We walked over to the woman sitting behind a table at the front and saw a flyer sitting on her table.
Spend a day with Masketta Fall!
You and a friend could win the opportunity to tour some of Melbourne's hot spots with the band for an entire day!
See Kathy at the front for details.
I looked at the woman who I assumed was Kathy. She handed me an entry form which asked for my general information. I quickly filled it out and waited for Quinn to fill out hers.
"So, are you guys big fans?" Kathy asked. I smiled and nodded.
"One of the biggest," Quinn finished whilst handing her the form. Kathy smiled and wished us luck and we ran off to try and get to where we were standing before.
The lights began to dim and Call The Shots came on and performed their set. It was getting crowded and people were trying to shove Quinn and I out of the way but I had been to many concerts and learned how to not let people in front of me. It was a trick that was extremely useful most of the time.
Once their set was finished everyone separated to either buy merch or go find the bands. Quinn and I strolled over to the bar. Being 19 we could drink but I didn't feel like getting drunk at another concert. A Day To Remember was really not a day to remember and that is all I will say.
We order our drinks and walk around, chatting to other people we had met at meet and greets or different concerts. Quinn began talking to this girl called Hannah and I decided that maybe I needed an "alcoholic boost" to keep me going. This was going to be a long day and I wasn't planning on remembering it forever.
The vodka ran down my throat in a small burn. It didn't take much for me to want to bring it back up again but I managed. I could feel it now, a buzz. Like a million butterflies kissing the surface of your skin, everything tingled. I felt like a queen.
Everyone began to gather around the stage again. I took another shot and let it soak in. I felt looser already and it was wonderful. Quinn came back and grabbed me, pulling me right to the front of the stage before anyone could even attempt to push us away. The lights dimmed once more and one by one they ran out. Ben, Braden, Dan and Jamie all came on as we started to cheer. They were all dressed in suits though I could imagine how hot they would get considering I was getting to an unhealthy temperature myself. I ignored it and began to join everyone in singing and dancing to their first song, Telescope.
I heard a yell and then felt someone beside me hit the floor. Quinn had been pushed over by one of the bitches in a cocktail dress. Usually I'm not one to start a fight but I do everything I can to end it. I help Quinn up and glare at the smirking white trash in front of me.
"Next time, don't slam down on my foot," she says whilst grinning.
"Hey man, it was an accident she didn't mean to jump on your foot. It's called a mosh pit for a reason," I tell her. She draws attention to me, scanning her eyes up and down my body. She then smiles and takes a step towards me.
"And, who might you be?" She asks. I try so hard not to laugh whilst she lays her hand on my chest.
"Female," I reply. She gasps and takes a step back, knocking into that girl Hannah I saw Quinn talking to before.
"Hey! Watch it, bitch!" Hannah yells. The confused girl runs out of the crowd in embarrassment while Quinn and I laugh. We return our attention to the stage where they had just started singing, Let Their Be Light. I smiled knowing it was Quinn's favourite song. Her face lit up immediately as Braden began singing the first line. It's amazing how one person can go from upset to completely happy in a few seconds.
"So this will be our last song but before we finish, we're going to announce the winner of the door prize which is spend a complete day with us," Braden announces into the microphone. Everyone begins to get excited although I can hear some people cursing that they didn't get a chance to enter.
"So, we'll get a hat and tip the names inside," Ben says. One of the roadies comes out with a top hat with the names of the eager fans inside. I just hope my name is picked out.
"And the winner is.." Ben says whilst Jamie does a drum roll.
"Quinn...something. I don't know how to pronounce your last name, sorry. Quinn A!" Ben says.
"It's Abakumov, I'm Russian!" Quinn yells. They smile and let her come on stage.
"So, which lucky friend of yours gets to spend a day with us tomorrow?" Braden asks.
"Her name is Danny," Quinn says. I smile and walk onto the stage as other people begin to protest that she should pick them.
"Hello, Danielle," Dan says with a formal tone.
"Hello Daniel," I reply with a formal tone much like his.
"Well, you two have pretty much the same name, that won't be confusing at all," Jamie says and everyone laughs.
"Well, I guess you guys will have to just put up with that for a day, huh?" I reply. Jamie laughs and we go back into the crowd.
"So, this last song is a new one, it's called Big Dog," Braden announces. We dance and sing along before the lights come back on and everyone spreads out again.
"So, considering this day is almost done we're going to pick you guys up tomorrow at say 10am and take you out for breakfast and we'll go do some stuff. Sound good?" Ben asks. Quinn and I smile and nod eagerly as Quinn writes down her address on a piece of paper and I arrange to meet at her place at 8am.
