I Can't Believe Him

A slight beep from your phone wakes you up and you look at the time on your alarm clock. 9:46. You've slept for about twelve hours. Eleven and thirty-seven minutes, to be exact.

The message reads: "Hey Y/N. I heard about what happened. Are you okay? I'm going to come by later to hang out if you're not busy. Are you?"

You reply to Aubrey with: "I'm fine. I have a hairline fracture. Thanks. I'm not supposed to be doing anything but I do have to go get groceries sometime today."

The next reply is almost instant: "Ooh! I can help! I'll come by around 11:30. Bye, Y/N."

You shut your phone off and go to get in the shower.

Aubrey picks you up in her black Ford Taurus. "I just had to get it. It's my sign, anyway."

You head to the store, passing by lots of houses. Some of them have pink, blue, yellow, and green plastic flamingos displayed in their yards.

You shut the door. Pulling out the folded list in your pocket, you spot Taron's vehicle from across the parking lot.

"Looks like your boy toy is here, too. Maybe he had to pick up some 'things'." Aubrey teases. You throw a playful glare her way.

As you walk into the Sainsbury's, large air conditioners blow down on you. Your hair flies up. Aubrey laughs at you as you pull the hair caught in your lipgloss away from your mouth. Her ponytail is untouched.

"Okay, so, first I need some milk, chips, bread, eggs, hamburger meat, chicken breasts, and I think I might need some more water." you say.

"Split the list in half. Yeah, like that." Aubrey says, taking half of the list from your hand.

You look at what's left; hamburger, chicken, water, and eggs. Grabbing a cart, you walk away towards the meat shelf. It's not too far away. You push the cart a little faster, and then jump on the bar near the bottom of the buggie. You laugh, zooming along the floor at about three miles an hour. You laugh and then jump off. After grabbing the meat, you get the rest of the stuff.

After pushing the water onto the bottom rack of the buggie, you stand up and walk to the front of the cart. You look up, about to go find Aubrey, when you stop dead in your tracks. All of the laughter fades from your body.

Taron walks around the corner, his arm around a girl with blonde hair and dark-brown eyes. They're both laughing at something he said. He steals a kiss on her cheek.

You stare at them. You don't feel anything.

Taron sees you. Tears are gathering at the rims of your eyes. The girl next to Taron is looking from your face to his, trying to figure out what's going on.

"We're just good friends, Y/N." he says.

"Oh. Yeah, I know. Good friends will always kiss each other on the cheek. Maybe I'll just find a good friend to kiss on the cheek and put my arm around. Oh, wait. He already has someone. What the hell is wrong with you, Taron?" you say.

"I, uh," you cut him off.

"I, uh, I think we're done here." you turn the cart around, a little too sharp. It nearly tips over. "Just go hang out with that bitch some more."

Turning the corner, the tears spill over your eyes. Aubrey walks up, putting stuff in the cart.

"I heard everything. You poor baby. It'll be okay. I hurried and got ice cream, too."

"I just can't believe him." you sob.
