"M'am, Agent Hill is on the line," Jarvis announced as Pepper and I were having wine.
"Shut up, Jarvis. I'm on a date."
"M'am, my system is being overridden."
Suddenly, my phone rang, causing me to groan and Pepper to raise an eyebrow.
I slid the answer button, causing Agent Hill's face to appear on the screen.
"Hello," I said in an annoyed, stiff voice, "You have reached the life-size clone of Torri Stark."
I could see Pepper snickering behind the screen.
"Please leave a message."
"Miss, it's urgent."
"Then leave it urgently."
The elevator doors opened suddenly, revealing Agent Hill.
"Security breach, it's on you," I reminded Pepper.
He ignored me to go greet our unwelcomed guest.
"Hi, Maria. How are you doing?"
"Uh, her name is Agent."
"Nice to see you again. We were just having a glass of champagne."
"No, we were not."
"Director Fury wants you to see this," Hill said, handing me a small briefcase.
"Eh, I don't like to be handed things."
"Well, that's great," Pepper spoke up, "Because I do."
He took the briefcase from Hill and gave her his drink, then gave me the case and took my drink.
"I don't want anything to do with SHIELD," I reminded Hill.
"Is this about the Avengers?" my boyfriend asked, then realized his mistake, adding, "Which I know nothing about."
"Take a look at it," Hill told me.
I glanced at Pepper to ask if I had to and he nodded, causing me to groan.
I stomped on over to my desk where the readings of my tower were and slammed the briefcase on it.
Turning towards Pepper again as if to say, "I did it, happy?" he merely nodded and said, "Now open it."
When I finally did, images popped up. My desk was surrounded by images and clips of people that SHIELD was surveying for the Avengers initiative.
"Wow," Pepper commented as he came up behind me, "You have a lot of homework. A lot."
"Yeah, but what if I didn't?"
He leaned down with a smirk on his face and whispered in my ear.
I saw Hill glance down in embarrassment.
"Deal?"
"Uh, deal."
"I'll take the jet to DC tonight."
"Mmkay."
"I love you," he said, planting a small kiss on my lips.
"I love you to."
I glanced back at the screens as Pepper walked away, leading Hill with him.
"So how is, the cellist, I think?" he asked her as they walked into the elevator.
"He moved back to Portland."
"Oh, poo!"
I ignored them and studied the screens more, causing one in particular to capture my attention.
It had Steve Rogers on it, aka. Captain America. He was fighting these things, non-stop, and making sure that each of his men were alive.
You don't find people like that much anymore.
Later that night...
I sat at my desk, still going through all the files that Fury gave me. I mean like, dang, that man must want me on his spandex team badly.
I also was going through some more files, ones on this thing called the Tessaract.
I guess it's some like, godly power source that was taken by some freak named Loki who is from outer space. And he is also brother to Thor who is some like, god, who was living New Mexico of all places.
My phone beside me lit up, showing Director Fury's face on the screen.
"Mr. One-Eyed Man, what's the plan?" I answered.
"Did you read the files Hill sent you?"
"Well, hello to you to. And yes, I did."
"So you understand the situation?"
"Uh, yup. Pretty much."
"Good. Cause I need you in Stuguard, Germany right now. Loki is making a scene."
"Thanks for asking politely," I said sarcastically.
"I have Captain America there right now, but he'll need some-"
"Woah! Slow down there, boss. I'm not working beside Captain Capsicle and I'm not his back up. Why would he need any anyway?"
"He's just one man."
"Yeah. One old man."
"We need you."
"Yeah, a lot of people do."
"So will you help?"
"Sure. I mean, I'm all about assisting the elderly."
"Suit up, Miss Stark."
"Oh yeah, and one more thing. What is Agent Hill's real name?"
