I didn't start my lessons that day because it was a Sunday but the day after, from the morning into the afternoon I had AP English ,Calculus, History of Mutants, and sign language. At four I went outside to where Aric and the Professor were waiting for me.
"Hello Marida, how were your classes?"
The professor asked me and I answered back saying "They were okay, I like History of Mutants the most, it's interesting to hear of past mutants."
Then the professor said "You will learn to control your abilities, and become just as great as the most famous mutant, I'm sure of it." I thanked him, and then me and Aric got to work.
"Come on Marida, I saw you use your powers, they don't just start randomly!" Ok so it had been three weeks since we had started and we hadn't gotten anywhere, but Aric didn't need to yell at me. I was standing right across from him and yet he continued to yell. At one point Aric went stiff and looked into the distance but didn't focus on anything in particular, and then he was back to normal.
I was thinking that the professor "said" something to him through his telepathy when Aric started yelling at me again, but this time he wasn't rudely encouraging me to use my powers, he was insulting me.
"You're weak, you will never be able to control your powers. Such a waste, your abilities are magnificent, only if they had been given to someone strong..." He never finished his sentence. I was infuriated. I could handle being yelled at but I couldn't stand to be thought of as weak, so before I knew it I had awaken an inner instinct to defend myself and... BOOM!
Once the dust had cleared you could see a huge crater in between where Aric and I were standing, but now Aric was hovering in the air. Looking pleased, he landed back down.
He walked up to me and said "Well done, you seem to be getting the hang of it." I felt in control for the first time in a long time. I wanted to see what all I could do so I lifted my arms and stretched my mind to command all the atoms around me to do my bidding, and they did.
Where the carder I had just made was, now dirt was swirling and rocks tumbling, and all of a sudden there it was. A garden with an arbors with flowers and trees with a bench in the center of the arbore. I couldn't believe I had made something so beautiful. I had always thought that I could only destroy, but then I realized I could make anything I wanted and I was thrilled with my progress. And so was Aric.
"Amazing work! I knew you were special, but... this is amazing!"
"Yes it is, Marida you have made so much progress." Turning around I see Professor Xavier and forty other students and teachers. I had forgotten that this was their free hour. Some seemed to be watching in amazement and others in hesitation. I didn't know what to say or do, but thankfully I didn't need to do anything because a few students walked up and started introducing themselves and asking me questions. I was a little overwhelmed by all the attention, but lots of attention is better than being feared.
At one point we had made our way inside and were having dinner (people were still talking my ears off) when this cute guy about my age (18) came up to me and said "Hey my name is Jimmy. So what else can you make besides gardens?"
He said this in a flirtatious way and I answered back saying "I'm not going to make anything else until you show me what your power is." Yes I could have taken his hand and found out... but well that would have been a bit weird. Looking at me with a mischievous smile he lifted his hand and spun it around and a tiny tornado appeared.
"So you can control the air?" I asked and he nodded and signaled for me to use my power again.
"I can control matter. What do you want me to make?"
At this statement I could have sworn I saw Aric lower his gaze as if he were jealous but I just ignored it and Jimmy said "How about... a skateboard!?" I was a little disappointed but I did as he said and made a skateboard, but didn't allow anyone to keep it at the mental request of Professor Xavier.
We had dinner and I enjoyed not having to sit by myself, but there was still something wrong. I kind of missed sitting with Aric like I had been doing since returning and kind of wished he would come sit with me, but he didn't.
