As the party raged on next door, you threw your book down in frustration. Granted, this book was in a foreign tongue you didn't know, but you were more frustrated because of the noise. The Grandmaster was once again holding a party, and once again it was for his big green champion. You didn't mind the parties, usually you would join in yourself, but tonight was different. The smell of alcohol and the noise of thumping music was almost suffocating. Standing from your chair, you wandered out onto your balcony and gazed up at the stars. Rubbish and discarded bits still fell from the sky, but the stars were so bright here. The flashing lights from the party next door started to bother you as the songs changed- this time a mix of Midgard music was being played. Why was it so annoying? You didn't know.
Well, actually, you did know. It was annoying because you were in the foulest of moods. A certain someone who had occupied your thoughts since he arrived a few weeks ago was the cause of your mood.
Since you were high up in the ranks of the Grandmaster's favourites, you were almost always around the silver-haired quirky guy with a god complex. You didn't actually dislike him, although he was definitely threatening in his own way. It had been a normal day when you met the new stranger, you resting in one of the common rooms with your friends, the Grandmaster writing a new song.
"Ah! I just wanted to let you all know we'll have a new person joining us this evening," he said, smiling in that knowing way.
"When did you meet them?" One of your friends asked, not even sounding surprised. It wasn't surprising, he always had new favourites and the group of you was growing constantly.
"Yesterday. He was found outside, and was so charming I just had to let him join us. You get that, right?" He said, sounding absolutely smitten with this man. In all honesty, you weren't expecting much. Every time a new favourite was found, the Grandmaster would be infatuated with them. He had been infatuated with you at one point. But after a week or so, he would go back to his usual ways. So, you weren't expecting much of this "charming" fellow. He wouldn't be so special in a week or so.
Oh, how wrong you were. You couldn't believe your eyes that evening when, stood next to the Grandmaster as he DJ'd for the party, was the most captivating creature to have ever set foot in the favourites' quarters. Everyone seemed obsessed with him, including yourself. He had politely introduced himself to everyone and was making idle chatter with them, occasionally flitting between groups to socialise. You did notice though when you watched him discreetly, that whenever he was alone- however brief- his cheery demeanour would shift, and his face would darken and grow distant. He quickly masked that emotion when joining back into conversation.
When he had finally made his way around to you, you were practically bursting at the seams to talk to him. He introduced himself to you as Loki, the God of Mischief. It became apparent to you at that moment that he was one of the Princes of Asgard. Wow. He began to converse with you and the others you were dancing with, but he didn't dance himself. He just stood stock still. As your friends kept him occupied, you made sure you got an eyeful of him. His black hair was one of his most bold characteristics which you couldn't keep from taking your eyes off, along with his own striking eyes. He wasn't as muscular as others you had seen, but his frame was tall. His smile was almost wicked in a way, although it never reached his eyes. There was great sadness in those eyes, you could see it. Loki caught you watching him, and those sad eyes briefly sparkled when he realised what you were doing.
And so, a few weeks later, Loki had become fully integrated into the group of the Grandmaster's favourites. You gradually learnt more about him as he shared his past. Gee, his life sounded like pure torture. Your heart nearly broke for him when he revealed how much he liked Sakaar. He felt he could fit in here well, as he was lost and unwanted- as all of you were. You distinctly remember the shiver of excitement run through you every time he showcased his powers- reading memories, projecting himself, even shapeshifting. This guy was one hell of a God!
