An unconventional retelling of Beauty and the Beast featuring a clearly smitten Death and an oblivious mortal girl: - Death and Love are deities that live among mortals - they are also enemies as Love keeps messing with the fates and has the wrong people fall in love so Death has to just kill them (think Romeo and Juliet) - Love, annoyed that Death keeps killing off her mortals, makes a bet with him - she will choose a girl and if Death is able to get the girl to fall in love with him without using his powers, she'll stop messing with the fates and do her job - he agrees and Love chooses a mortal girl who is engaged to a man she doesn't really love but whose influence controls the whole city (Gaston)
extra stuff: - I imagine this being very much like Beauty and the Beast where Death hides his true identity but lives in like a mansion or whatever - Belle's father works for Death and when he falls ill, she takes over working for Death - Love chooses her on purpose - Gaston is a fucking dick to Belle but she puts up with him because he helps her father - Death falls in love with her and gets hella soft
