Eight Days Later

John and Sherlock had just gotten back from a quick morning case across the Thames and had returned to 221B for a quick refresher.

As John would undoubtedly be devoting more time to Mary and the baby in a few weeks time, Sherlock was attempting to run him as much as possible in preparation for the army doctor's future absences. He knew that the baby would require John's attention. And it would be difficult to cope with even less time spent with his best friend. But John had chosen his life and Sherlock wanted him to be happy- so he would not interfere.

Sherlock sat down at the desk and opened his laptop, leaving his phone in his blazer pocket. John relaxed into his chair and started updating the blog. Missus Hudson popped up with tea and a familiar sense of peace filled the flat. Too peaceful. Sherlock noted but said nothing. He had the distinct feeling that the calm would end shortly.

Lo and behold, he was correct. In ten minutes his phone buzzed. Sherlock did nothing. John noticed and after five minutes he sighed and got up, digging Sherlock's mobile out and sticking it in his hand, "Here."

"Thank you, John."

"Mm." John sat back down and Sherlock opened the message. A.

This was new for A

This was new for A. Sherlock pursed his lips as he waited for her response.

John saw Sherlock's expression change in the slightest, "Mate?"

John saw Sherlock's expression change in the slightest, "Mate?"

"Mm?"

"You alright?"

"Perfectly fine, John."

He was sharply focused on his mobile. John got a feeling that this meant he'd gotten a case, so he sat ready to get up and run out the door.

She must have been typing very fast because she didn't include her normal signature. Sherlock further deduced that she was at least rattled by what had happened. They were jumped. She could be injured.

Her next text surprised him

She's correct. There's also that she probably doesn't want me to figure out her identity because of her neighbor's abduction. Sherlock tsked.

"Mate? Is it a case?"

"Mate? Is it a case?"

"Kidnapping near Westminster. I'm getting more of the details now."

John nodded and got up to put on his coat while A texted Sherlock every tidbit and observation she could recall. She sent a few pictures as well and described the vehicle. Then Sherlock instructed her to return to her home, tend her bruises, and stay alert in case the gang returned, "We going?"

"Yes. The game is on." In more ways than one.
