Chapter 5:
James

As we get further into the city it seems dirtier; more attacked. I have to look away and pray that James is ok.
As we get closer to his place, I get more anxious. We pull up in his driveway and hop out of the car so fast that Adam actually yells at me.

"What the hell are you doing?!? You have to check before you get out! What If there was a zombie there?!?" He quietly yells.

"I'm sorry, I just need to know that he's ok." I reply with a sad look in my eyes.

He just nods and we walk towards his house. The door is locked but I have a key so I open it. I slowly creep in and when were all inside, I close and lock the door. I hear a noise coming from the top of the stairs.

It slowly starts to walk down the stairs and when it finally comes into sight I see that it's.......

James; he's holding a double barrel shotgun that is pointed at us. It doesn't stay like that for long though because when his eyes lock with mine, he drops it to the ground and comes running towards me.

He picks me up and swings me around; kissing me when he puts me down. When we finally break apart I look him in the eye an see tears starting to form.

"I didn't think I'd ever see you again" he tells me.

"I wouldn't let that happen. You are part of me now and there is nothing that will get in the way of that" I reply with tears starting to run down my cheeks. He wipes the tears away and says, "I love you Tessa"

"I love you too James" I don't know whether it was the fact that we almost lost each other or that we have nothing to lose that made us so close; but I don't really care. I want to spend as much time with him while I can because the future is unknown and we only know what's present.

We get outside and back to my jeep with Adam and Taylor in the front and James and I snuggling in the back. We have all the weapons in the very back aside from my bi-bi gun and Taylor's pocket knife. Although James reaches for his double barrel because he "feels safer with it" and reply by saying,"I feel safest when I'm with you."

I hear a snort come from Adam and I just roll my eyes. He couldn't possibly understand what it's like to care about someone like we do. Although if I told him that he would say I was too young to understand what love is; even though he's only a year older than me, Adam acts like he's many years older than me. I guess it comes in handy in situations like this though.

We stop by a gas station that doesn't look overrun right now, but it was pretty obvious that this area got hit pretty hard with the attack.

"I'm gonna have to fill her up if we expect to make it out of the city, everyone else keeps watch." Adam tells the group as he looks outside before opening the door. I started pulling weapons forward, Taylor and I both got an axe and James kept his shotgun.

We step outside and it seems really quiet so I decide to start to stock up on food by going into the convenience store. James follows behind as I knock on the door twice to make sure nothing is in there. Nothing responds so I go in and start filling a big bag with any food and drinks I can find.

It's mostly junk food so I grab the stuff that won't expire like beef jerky. I grab some chips as well them head over to the coolers. I grab all of the water bottles and energy drinks as well as sports drinks.

Once the bag was full James and I left and Adam was done by the time we got out.

"What the hell, you we supposed to keep watch, we could have been swarmed" Adam complains

"Well were you swarmed?" I ask

"Well no" he replies

"Your welcome then" James says cutting me off.

"We did something useful at least, look we got a bunch of food and water" I tell him as I show him the bag.

"It will do for now but eventually we have to find better food than that. Our main priority is getting out of the city though to see if anywhere didn't get hit." Adam says as he takes the bag and puts it in the back. Then we all hop in the car and set off down the road.
