Lady Midnight in Paris

Chapter 7

"...and Ladybug has been defeated. Can we put Paris' safety into your hands? Chat Noir needs your help."

The girl hesitated. Would she be able to take on this big responsibility, even just for a short time? This Midnight seemed to be extremely vicious and difficult. She had never done this kind of thing before.

"If you're ready, just say, 'Titan, let's fly!'"

The girl swallowed. She looked out her window at her beloved city. Her best friend had always been super picky about the city, but the girl loved it all.

If she was loyal to her city, this was the way to show it.

"Titan, let's fly!"

Chat Noir took in a deep breath. Even though he felt helpless without Ladybug, it didn't mean he couldn't do anything by himself. He could use his Cataclysm.

But the power to destroy wasn't always a good thing.

He surveyed the abandoned street. The announcement over the speakers was still going on, even though people had already obeyed. "Akuma alert. Ladybug and Chat Noir are expected to handle this emergency swiftly. Akuma alert. Ladybug and Chat Noir are expected to handle this emergency..."

It was just him. No Ladybug. Whether she was dead, or...

He shook his head. He must do it!

A high screech came from above him. Chat Noir looked up.

A person in a tight brown suit was diving down from the sky directly towards him.

Chat Noir leaped to the side of the road in fear. The person crashed down on the road, fist to the ground. The asphalt cracked, and dust rippled outward.

Chat Noir peeked out of his hiding place. What he saw took his breath away.

She had slicked down white hair with thick white feathers at the neck. Flying behind her was a feathered tail of assorted tans, browns and whites. Her suit looked similar to the style of Ladybug and Rena Rouge's, but brown with white diagonal stripes at the legs.

She straightened up from her position. Her short white hair fell back to reveal glowing yellow eyes. She held a gold glinted sword.

"Who--who are you?" Chat Noir asked, hesitantly taking a step forward.

"I am Eagleflight. I have been called on to assist you, Chat Noir."

"What's your Miraculous?"

Eagleflight pointed to a gold pin on the left side of her collarbone. It was a tiny little feather.

"That's pawesome."

Eagleflight smiled. "Now, what seems to be the problem?"

Chat Noir's spirit faded when he focused on the issue. "The latest akuma is a girl named Marinette, and she's the most powerful akuma I've ever seen. She's somehow been taking strength from civilians until they collapse. She has some sort of mind control power as well...and she said that she stole Ladybug's Miraculous. I don't know what we can do without Ladybug...she has the power to cleanse the akumas."

Eagleflight nodded slowly, taking in all of the information. "Let's go." She suddenly gave herself a little jerk, and gigantic eagle wings exploded out of her back.

"Whoa!"

"No time to waste, Chat Noir," said Eagleflight as she took off into the sky.

Chat Noir could only stare open-mouthed at this new heroine. "Who knew?" he muttered, as he used his staff to launch himself into the sky after her.

Midnight was powerful. She felt like she could defeat anything.

Hawk Moth sounded so giddy every time he made a connection with her, she was starting to get annoyed. She was more powerful than him, she knew that.

All she needed to do was get Hawk Moth Chat Noir's Miraculous, and she would be free to get all the power she wanted.

Midnight walked down the open street. She was ready for the next fight, for Chat Noir. She was ready to defeat him.

Suddenly, her body lurched. Midnight fell to the ground. She groaned in frustration.

Marinette was still trying to fight her. Midnight rolled her eyes at the pathetic girl's feeble attempts to reclaim control of her body. Midnight was starting to feel Marinette's back pain. No. It was powerful Midnight in control now, not Marinette.

But every time Midnight thought of defeating Chat Noir, Marinette would get stronger. She would get angrier.

Midnight pushed Marinette further down until she had complete control. Marinette may come back, but next time, Midnight would have more power.

She knew where the Guardian was.
