Rena Rouge and Carapace ran down the streets of Paris, only to stop in their tracks to see several weakened people laying on the ground where Midnight had roamed.
Rena Rouge knelt next to a woman with a child. The woman was holding the child's hand desperately. "Why would she do this?"
"It's not Marinette, I know that," Carapace said. "I saw her."
Rena Rouge jerked her head to look at him, surprised. "You saw...?"
"I saw her. In Midnight. She was fighting. We have to save her."
Rena Rouge put a hand on his shoulder. "We will. It's our duty. And after we save her, we need to find Ladybug so she can cleanse the akuma."
Carapace shook his head. "How are we going to find her?" he murmured.
"I don't know," Rena Rouge said quietly. "But we need to move these civilians to safety." She scooped up the child in her arms, and headed over to a nearby cafe. Carapace followed, carrying the woman.
The two superheroes continued to move along the streets of Paris, moving each unconscious person to the inside of buildings nearby. It was only a few blocks that Midnight had taken over, but it took them nearly the whole evening. Only a sliver of the setting sun remained behind the buildings. Long dark shadows stretched out behind the superheroes.
"I'm going to go check on my family," Rena Rouge said, and jumped onto the roof of a nearby building and disappeared.
"I should check on my dad," Carapace murmured, and ran down the street. He passed the Grand Paris Hotel and stopped in front of his large mansion.
Carapace entered the code to open the gate. The metal bars creaked into the exquisite courtyard that was his home.
He hesitated. It would be the first time he stepped into his house not as Adrien or Chat Noir. It didn't seem right. He was Carapace now, but not really. In his heart, he would always be Adrien and Chat Noir at the same time. It felt like he was stealing Master Fu's identity.
Carapace stepped in.
