I hate when people say "It's okay, you tried your best."
Or "She did her best, and that's good enough."
because no, actually, it's not. People will still
laugh when you don't do as well, even if
it was your 'best' because, really,
what they're doing is making
excuses.
No one wants to say that it's not 'your best' that isn't good enough, it's you.
