"SHIT!" I YELLED as I kept trying to stomp on the gas petal of my car but it wasn't working. "Fucking stupid car." I mumbled as I kept trying, failing, and groaning.

"Need help?" I looked up to see Mr. O'Brien. I opened the car door and he let out a soft chuckle. "I could drive you home if you want?"

"I wouldn't want to bother you." I said making him vigorously shake his head "it would be no bother" he said with a smile.

The older man led me to his car and opened the door to the passenger seat making me giggle "thank you Mr. O'Brien" I said

"You're welcome Ms. Bennett" He gave me a small wink.

"Where is your house by the way?" He asked getting into the drivers seat and closing the door after him.

I explained where I live and he started to drive.

"Do you mind if we make a quick stop to my place first?" Mr. O'Brien asked me "sure sir-I mean sure as in I don't mine" I rambled.

"Great then" he said and after only a five minute ride we arrived at his place. "I just need to get something I'll only be a minute but you're welcome to come in if you'd like" he offered

"Ok thanks sir" I said and walked into his home. It was cozy with a nice living room. Nice for a family. His girlfriend most love it.

"You have a really nice home" I complemented as I saw him coming back down from his room with a new tie. He had spilled coffee on his other one so it made sense why he'd return to change it.

"Thank you" Mr. O'Brien grinned "your girlfriend most love it—" I said but got cut off by Mr. O'Brien chuckling "Ms. Bennett" he said "I don't have a girlfriend"

"Wait what? But in class you said—"

"I said what I said so the class wouldn't think I was a pedophile" Mr. O'Brien said

"Are you?" I asked with a weird look on my face

"No, I'm not. I promise you that. It's disgusting" Mr. O'Brien shock his head in disapproval.

"Want anything to drink or eat before I take you home?"

"No, thanks I'm good" I said with a light smile that he gladly returned.

We walked back to his car and after ten minutes arrived in front of the white mansion I called home.

"This is your house?!" Mr. O'Brien asked and his eyes widened "damn" he muttered under his breath but I heard him and lightly chuckled.

"Thank you so much Mr. O'Brien." I said "you're welcome" he said with a smile.

For a moment we just looked into each others eyes before I heard something break and my father drunkly walk outside. He must be back from work.

"Daddy hi-" I was soon interrupted by my father "where the hell have you been?! Don't tell me having sex with this ass you whoore-" he slurred

"Daddy!" I scolded

"Uh hello sir I uh I'm Maryams English teacher-" Mr O'Brien tried to say but was cut off by the drunk mess that was my father.

"Sex with your English teacher huh?"

"No dad actually Mr. O'Brien helped me when my car broke down—" I said

"You dumb slut you broke your car?!" My father growled and I whimpered. "Dad it didn't break it just stopped working" I tried defending myself.

"Doesn't matter" My father growled and pulled me into the house.

I didn't know it then but Mr. O'Brien had stayed outside and watched from the windows what was going on.

He saw everything. The way my father lifted his hand and the way he swung it down so that it could slap my cheek and bruise it.

That's when Mr. O'Brien decided to kick down the door. I turned my attention to the chocolate haired man who panted harshly.

"What the hell?!" My dad yelled and Mr. O'Brien walked closer to him "No, you what the hell?!" He yelled "shes a teen! You can't do that it's child abuse—"

"My parenting isn't child abuse—" My father defended himself.

"Yeah well tell that to the cops!" Mr. O'Brien smirked and my father instantly looked terrified. The fear was so obvious on his face by the way he shock lightly and the way his eyes widened "n-no" my father stuttered

"Let me get emancipated and I won't tell anyone" I finally spoke up. It was the first time I stood up for myself against my father since the day that my mother left us.

"Fine" My father said "oh and she's staying at my place tonight" Mr. O'Brien said then turned to look at me "I mean if you want that is—"

"I'd love to" I smiled at him. "Okay-Okay, just get your stuff and leave!" My father told me and I ran up the long staircase to my room and grabbed my things before walking down to Mr. O'Brien.

"Ready, Mia?" Mr O'Brien chuckled. "Yes, thanks again for everything today, Mr. O'Brien-oh and call me mimi, I hate Mia." I said with a light laugh and he smiled "you're welcome and call me Dylan or better yet your knight in shining armor, princess" he joked

I gave him a small grin and held his hands in mine "You mean my knight in shining black leather boots?"

Dylan offered to take me back to his home that night but I told him I'd be fine staying at a hotel- my fathers hotel actually 'The Allison' named after my mother.

I laid in the bed of the suite I was staying in and stared up at the ceiling as I held the necklace my mother gave me as a baby. I looked over at my phone and checked the time unintentionally checking the date as well. '12:01 am September 7' the same day my mother left. I felt a tear slide down my cheeks as I finally realized something.

I had no more family.
